Well, I have a toshiba a65-s126 laptop. A couple of days ago, it started to act slow so I restarted it. When I turned it back on, I had an error. It said something along the lines of 'system32/drivers/isapnp.sys is corrupt or missing.' It tells me to use a windows disk and use the recovery console to repair it. I figured I'd just use my recovery disk on it. I went to bios and had it check for the cd. It loads onto the white screen that says "don't turn off the computer. use ac power", but about 30 seconds later, it freezes. The mouse stops moving. I've left it there for half an hr and won't move. I tried a few times. Still nothing. A friend tried to fix it with his windows xp disk, but right after he clicks r for the recovery console, it freezes, saying "examining 57232mb disk 0 at id 0 on bus 0 on atapi". Left it on for about 10 mins and wouldn't move. He tried to install his windows onto it, and got the same "examining 57232mb disk 0 at id 0 on bus 0 on atapi" message. The bios is set to default, except I have it checking for the cd before the Hardrive. Can anyone suggest something else I can do to fix it? Thanks
Get a windows 98 bootdisk (www.bootdisk.com) and use it to fdisk and format the drive. Then try to reinstall XP. If the fdisk and format do not work, it sounds like you have a bum hdd. Considering that you are getting corrupt data, the drive could be on its way out. Go to Toshibas site and look for a hdd diagnostic tool (should be a bootable floppy), and run it to verify the health of the drive. Good luck ~Rich Edit: typo fix
A friend suggested I use a bootdisk on the laptop, but after I told him my laptop has no floppy drive, his response was :/ Is there any way to run a bootdisk without having to use a floppy? Like putting it on a flash driver?
Check this out....may be what you need. http://www.nu2.nu/bootdisk/cdrom/ ~Rich Edit: Or this http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/
Thanks for the links. I looked at http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ and ordered a cd using the site because the computer i'm using right now can't write cd. So, in a couple of days when it arrives, i'll try it and write back if it works.
