The drive is fine, if I roll back to pre service pack 2 it works fine, and is the same with all discs which I have checked in other machines

    OS. XP pro
    Drive. QSI CDRW/DVD SBW-242
    Model. acer TravelMate 661LCi

    Can anyone help! Please!!!!

Have you tried to update the driver/firmware?

Little known fact about SP2 vs the earlier versions... closed and removed the full sockets capability. Possibly this lappy uses an unusual socket to stream the data from the disk?

Why not try sp3?... I don't use M$ junk so I was hoping some of the windows "experts" would come to your rescue.
