I'm running w-xp pro and have a cd DVD rom & cd writer. When I start up the puter, 1st off, I get nothing on the screen, then I push reset and the system starts up. I go to "my computer" and my cd writer is present. Then I go to "control panel", "system", "hardware" then "device manager". I click dvd/cd rom drives and select my writer. I then click the icon for "scan for hardware changes" and my writer disappears. I have to restart to bring it back and sometimes after using it, it disappears. What's up with that? <please refrain from all caps -- it doesnt help get the question getting answered>
your bios is not right suggest fixing bios problem first then look at hard drive for viruses then maybe running a surface scan on hard drive to find any bad sectors, aapart from that reformat and reload xp
Did you check the jumper in the back of your CD-Writer. --- Depending on the other accessories you have , It is recommmended that you use the Secondary IDE channel (The Primary being used by your Hard Drive). If it's connected at the end of that ribbon cable , place the jumper in the MASTER position -- if it's in the center of the cable , place the jumper in the SLAVE position.
