Hello, I was wondering if you can use 48X media on a CD/R burner with at top speed of 24x??? Obviously the top speed would be 24X but I had heard that it wouldn't work at all??? Thanks for the help.

You heard wrong. The speed written on the label of the disc is just the maximum 'guranteed' speed. Of course the slower you burn the better, so you can use the 48x media on a 24x burner -- at up to 24x of course but you can still use it.

Is there any truth to the usual wisdom that you can't slow 48x WAY down to 2x or 1x to get a better burn, and actually end up with trash if you slow down that far?

Sounds like a double negative kinda...

In any case, you can always burn slower and slower is better so therefore you can always burn better. :)
