hey, my cd drive has used up all its five regions and i cant use different types of cd's and i was wondering weather if i had a cd decrypter would help, say, make a copy of the disk but ignore the region. Would this help?
I think you are referring to DVD regions. 1=USA. 2=UK. And so forth. Back ups of movies can be made as Region free or as sometimes called Region 0. Hopefully you have the drive set (locked) in the Region where you live. If so, I would leave it alone. I have heard that there may be work arounds for the limit. I have never changed my settings, so I would not know. Maybe someone else here can help. Or try Google on resetting region codes.
Dependant on the model of your drive, you may be able to get a firmware hack. Also AnyDvd does much the same. http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html
rulisky, mate iam talking about a cd region (but thanks for the hint) and in reply to pulsar, the cd drive is a sony. I have heard/uesd of anydvd but that only works for dvd's.
I've never heard of CD regions either! Must be something new that nobody else in the computer world know about.... Give us a clue as to the model number of the drive.
The drive is as it is says it is "SONY DVD-ROM DDU1611". I know it says DVD-ROM but i am 100% that it is a cd drive, and won't read cd's (as in cd's with files on it, not just music). I know that it is a cd drive because the booklet says cd, and the dvd drive is below it. It figures, the one problem i have is the only one that nobody can solve! Cheers to everybody helping me !
Here is a thread in a forum, have a read through the posts, seems that you are not the only one with this problem; http://www.totallydrivers.com/forum/thread.asp?thread=1216 Sony seems to be making a lot of crap gear of late, you may be one of the unlucky ones!
