new versions of nero are known to be buggy, and others are having the same problem. eac is the most accurate cd ripper out. I've used it for years with no issue.

Sorry for double posting...................i think i have my problem narrowed down to this.

None of my burners are recognizing any type of CD/CD-R/CD+R that are put into the drives. So can i do to make sure things are working/set up properly?

firstly, go to the drive manufacturer website and get 2 things. 1-latest firmware. 2-diagnostic utilities(most will have this). run diagnostics, and if they check out, check firmware version, and upgrade if necessary.
then, in bios, make sure dma is enabled.
On another note, ripping audio can be funny. a good ripper is essential.
nero and itunes are not good rippers. in some situations, nero uses clonecd's raw read tech. but generally speaking, cd(in particular) ripping is best left to better software. nero is a great burn program tho. also, rip settings are important. also, cd audio CAN NOT be ripped accurately at over 12x. you really should consider using eac to rip. get lame encoder too. tell eac to use external encoder, and show it where lame.exe is. eac is the most accurate ripper out, and lame is the best mp3 encoder out. both are freeware.
btw... your 2 posts in this thread are not double posting. double posting would be posting same issue in different thread. post "padding" is when you unnecessarily post in a thread in order to either keep the thread current, or to increase your # posts. neither of the 2 pertains to your posts. :>)

well, i updated drivers and firmware from manufactors sites and still ripping is chopping and popping on BOTH BURNERS!!

I tried ripping to my external drive as well with the same results.

The thing that i see is that no matter what speed i set the drive to, they both seem to be ripping VERY FAST (like 1MB per sec. for a wav. rip) Where else should i check to adjust the speed to have them rip slower

wow... thats a real bitch. dma enabled? I know nero has read speed setting in cda options, and depending on what version you use, there is a raw read option.(always raw read)
this has gotta work... get clone cd. in its options, select "raw dao" if not supported, select "raw sao". in audio read options select "best/slowest", also do NOT ignore read errors. shove in your audio cd open clone, and select "read to image file" when done, mount the image with daemon tools (let me know if your not sure how to do that) tis easy. open your normal cd ripper, and with it, open the "virtual drive" created by daemon tools, and go about your normal procedure.
if the mp3s are still choppy, play the image(through virtual drive)and make sure its good. i'll almost guarentee it is. You would then know that the drives are ripping properly. and you dont have a hardware issue.
Clone cd is my catch-all for any disk that doesnt want to read. its really good. if it finds hard to read sectors, it will hang there, slow the read, and retry until it gets it right. if it cant read, it will abort.(unless you tell it to ignore read errors).
also, not all drives support clones raw dao mode. 1 of your drives probably will tho. find the one that does and use it to rip. if not, raw sao is almost as good.

i'm pretty sure you need to be logged in as an administrator to do firmware. Im not yet familiar with vista tho. Definitly start with firmware, but you say you have tried several drives. seems unlikely all drives would not read it tho. i really think you need to try another cd ripper. also, itunes is dirty. if you need it to sync with an ipod, use winamp instead

It looks like ANY PROGRAM i use isn't working WMP, ITUNES, WINAMP.....

WMP reads the tracks on the cdz but for some reason will not play any cd, or when i try to click on RIP WMP hangs up.

ITUNES will read the tracks on cdz, ask me if i want to import. But when i import the track times read 00:00:00, or 798:00:00 (and as the tracks are importing to itunes, the cd drives are not even blinking at all)

WINAMP rips through all the tracks within 30secs. and then the files are all in a folder but are blank.

When i put a cd in either drive and select open files when autoplay opens, all tracks are the exact same size like 41kb or something like that....wierd.

Like i said before.....i just update drivers, and firmware....and both burners will burn DVD's without any problems at all.

If ANYONE has a clue what to do.....please help me out.

This is what i am STILL having problems with: looks like ANY TYPE of CD (not DVD) cannot be read in any of my drives......actually both drives can read the CD's but will NOT PLAY WITH ANY PROGRAM AT ALL.
