    Hi All,
The cd-rw drive can read a cd, but doesn't write. Source does not matter. There is a successful burning message, but the cd is untouched. I can burn something on the same cd with another machine. Could you point me in the right direction, i.e. a driver problem, hardware setup problem, the burner is junk, etc. Thank you in advance!!

    1. Make sure you are not simulating
    2. Make sure your destination drive is the not the virtual drive
    3. Yes your burner could be toast: does it burn regular CDRs okay or is it just CDRW discs?

What app are you using to burn cds? What are your system specs? What OS are you runnning (include serivce packs as applicable).

I'm using Nero with Windows98, cd-rw is the master, cd-rom is the slave. How do I know if the destination drive is the virtual drive? I tried another IDE connection to make sure it wasn't primary. That's when the drive would read. Before that, nothing. It won't burn anything. Quite sure I'm not simulating, as I'm burning the same way successful on the other computer. One visible obvious difference on the non-working one - nothing in the read buffer. - p.s. Much appreciated!

Recorder --> Choose Recorder --> Make sure there are at least two enties there and select the burner you wish to use (i.e., not the Image Recorder)

hmmm.... nothing in the read buffer.... rings a bell, seems very familiar but i cant quite put my finger on it.....

Hope you're still with me! Under CD Recorder the only option is NTI CD Image Writer, but in the disk properties the drive is MITSUMI CR-48x9TE. Software is NTI CD-Maker 2000 Standard.
How can I get the correct drive to display as an option for the recorder?

    Sorry,

I was trying NERO, but it does not support the writer, and does not work.

The drive was bundled with NTI CD-Maker 2000 Standard Edition, which also does not seem to support it(at least it isn't in the readme list of supported hardware). The vendor insists it is supported and tested before shipping, however refused to help me as I was not in front of the computer at the time of calling. I have since been unable to contact them, leaving multiple messages and getting no call back.

    1. Does the drive read cds or is it just the burning that gives you problems?
    2. Run Nero's InfoTools. Do you have Nero ASPI? System ASPI? Does InfoTool correctly detect your drive?
    3. Try Uninstalling the drive and then reboot to reinstall the drive. BTW, what model of drive do you have?

    Hi,

It reads just fine. It also writes just fine with a newer version of burning software. The model of the drive and the software version is listed in another post. Thanks.

Sorry I lied. The cd-rw drive is a Matsumi cr-48x9te. I was bundled with NTI CD-Maker 2000 Standard Edition.

To see what burners are supported by Nero check here:
    http://www.nero.com/en/content2/recorder.html
Is your burner listed? Make sure you are using a version of nero that supports your current burner.

BTW is it Mitsumi or Matsumi? :)_X_X_X_X_X_[small]ASUS A7V8X-X, AMD2500+

Yes, it's a mitsumi. It will burn with NTI CD-Maker 6 Platinum (trial), but not the one it came bundled with. The company should support that. I shouldn't have to spend another $50.00 to use their product. There are no fixes for this on their website. We left messages for a week when we pinpointed the problem, but we have not been able to speak to anyone yet. Thanks for all your help!! I really appreciated it. I'm unsubscribing from this thread. Bye for now.
