Hi, I have a relatively old Philips CDRW 200 ( not 2000)2x2x24 and have been happily using for a couple of years. A year ago I flashed it up to version 1.7e firmware with no problems. My system recognised it then as a PCA 382RW. Last week when trying to burn a disk it wouldn't take it and I notice my PC running W2K reported no CDRW being present. Nero, Easy CD and MP3 all confirm no CDRW present. In device driver the system now says its a PCA 82RW device. Also the case when booting up the device is recognised as PCA82 device prior to even getting to W2K. Tried to reflash the drive but it is not recognised as supported by the same tool i used last time. Seems to me the CD writer itself must have got corrupted. Any ideas welcome
I experienced a similar thing. Put up a thread about it but didn't get any replies. Tried to burn a bin file in Mode2 with Nero. Didn't work and afterwards the 1 month old AOPEN cd burner wouldn't find the cd's I inserted into it. Tried everything, last thing was to put it into another puter. No go... Going to the shop tomorrow to swap it :}
Very common with HP and Philips, my brother had the exact same trouble with win2k. However he installed Win XP Pro and it found his writer once again!
If you actually look through dvd hardware, I complained about that ages ago. My DVD drive was there but just never worked for me at all. After a while it woke up but it kept crashing so I bought a new one!!
Hi, Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to try a few things like... Restting the bios Reinstalling windows 2k Installing windows xp as required. Failing that I'll buy another writer as 2x is a bit slow now anyway. Trouble is I'm living in Egypt now so they're not ten a penny
