Help Recently my burner will not write to cds. everytime I try to burn a cd it says insert blank cd when there is one in the drive. I check in properties to make sure everything is ok and I notice theres no free space. What can I do to fix this problem?
Dear Renaye. I actually think I know an answer to this one - now there's a first! What's happened, as far as I know, is the burner's laser hasn't been reset properly. Here's one way to do this - but I'd check with a higher-quality geek than me before trying it, just incase. I shouldn't think it would do any harm, though. Boot into Safe Mode, open Device Manager, delete/remove any and all CD/DVD drives you find, reboot and Windows will re-detect the hardware and install the drivers. As it's setting them up as though they're new drives, it should reset them in the process! Tell me if it works, like I say, I don't think it will do any harm if it doesn't. Yours respectfully ulricburk
If that doesn't work, what burning software are you using. When I used WMP to burn some quick and dirty CDs. After one update, I would get that problem too often. I am guessing, the stupid app would burn to the disk for an instant to make sure the was a writable disk in the drive then later when I checked a second time it sees the disk as being used so it wanted a fresh disk. I figured I had it comming using garbage software. I am just saying it could be stupid software.
Try this app out and see if you can burn CDs. Real is down there with WMP. www.mediamonkey.com/download/ I have never had a problem or heard of anyone having a problem with this app. If you have any problems with it just post them on this thread. Imgburn is a great burning app. Media Monkey is more like itunes on steroids, it does many audio related things.
