Is this the first time you have had problems with this brand of discs that you are using? Try a different brand if you have one. If this CD/DVD writer is very old it may have stopped working.The lasers may be getting weak possibly.I have a 6 year old computer running XP also and I recently had to replace my CD/DVD burner.You can get a pretty good one for $30.I would replace it with a Sata drive if I were you.Is this the one you have in the link below? http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Reviews/Specific.aspx?ArticleId=14084
