My CD player is ancient and bit the dust some time ago; with the new audio technologies encoded in music as well, I'd been using my DVD player anyway. My question is this: with my DVD set up to play CDs and doing such a great job with all these new digital encoding making it a great listening experience, is there any logical reason short of wear and tear why I should invest some bucks in buying a new CD player when they sound so damned good through the DVD player? Thanks and have a great holiday weekend.

if you are happy, why spend more on hardware? just go buy more software (DVD-A or SACD or even CD)with the money.

With technology being what it is, the DACs in the DVD players now, are probably better than what's in a cd player, unless you buy a "High End" cd player.
Therefore, I second sdifox's suggestion......................)
    Enjoy!

    i agree......... save the money.
a stand alone dvd player is now a more multi-purpose tool.
