Just wondering, What does unlocking the phone do for you anyways?

 

It lets you swap netowrks - say you buy an O2 cell and want to use a Vodafone sim in it then you have to unlock it first

Intersting, BTW I think you can tell I am new at this but;

I dont think my E815 has a Sim card, at least not one you can take out of the phone I dont think. I am with Aliant in Canada would I be able to unlock my phone and use an American Company like Verizon and not lose all the features that I have a Verizon has locked? Would I be able to use the verizon Vcast thing? I'm guessing this ins't allowed by the phone company. How do I got about unlocking my phone
