change dvd drive on xbox

here goes: i have an xbox, preowned. guess its old as it has the thompson dvd drive. i've softmodded it and got xbmc on it. its just that it wont play my dvd+r's and struggles to play a dvd-r.

the good news is i have my old xbox (which is actually newer) and it has a better dvd drive...philips maybe. i cant use it as it has an error 13 - some other time - but its dvd drive plays my dvd r's no problem.

so can i exchange the drives? what do i need to know? thanks,

It should be a straight swap.

 

Unplug one and Plug in the other.
That simple, theres nothing to it, even if you switch between the 3 different brands M$ uses.

guys its error 13 though his microsoft files r either corrupted, trash, or deleted its just gonna be a chip or hotswap i had the error 13 as well but now my xbox is like brand new

 

Hot Swap is the problem, I have always had problems with it.
XboxHDM v1.9 Is the best way to go!
