What does it involve hexing ??

I thought i would make a guide for installing and converting .ttf (True Type font) files to .pgf files

    HOW TO INSTALL FONTS

    Whats Needed

    1) PSP (Firmware 1, 1.5, 2.0, 2.01, 2.5, or 2.60). On PSPs with firmware 2.0+, eLoader is required, as well as GTA for 2.01+

    2) Custom Font Italic Package http://dl.qj.net/PSP-Font-Customization … /catid/114

    3) FileAssistant 0.4

    4) A Hex editor program on your PC (like UltraEdit32 or WinHex)

    Process:

    1. Copy files from your firmware
To mod the font of your PSP, you will have to first export 2 files from your flash1. You can use FileAssistant to do so. Run it, go to Disk, and change to PSP BIOS 1. Then enter folder "registry", select "copy", and copy both system.dreg and system.ireg to your memory stick.

    2. Edit the registry file
Copy the system.dreg and system.ireg file onto your PC. Open system.dreg with a Hex editor program. Run a search for "flash0:", you will be able to see some text like "flash0:/font" to be found. Then, type the directory onto this text to overwrite it. In this tutorial, we use "ms0:/fontmod" for our own font. Type it in the Hex editor to overwrite the original text in the text field, and erase the remaining text with "00" in the hex field. And at last, save the file and copy them back onto an easy-to-find place on your memory stick.

    3. Repair the registry file
Use fixupdreg3.exe to fix the registry files. Just copy the exe file to where the 2 registry files are in, and run it with a double click.

    4. Get the font files ready
Copy the font files into ms0:/fontmod folder.

    5. Write the customized registry files back
Run FileAssistant again. Find the system.dreg and system.ireg file, and copy them into your PSP BIOS 1. This step should be the most dangerous one in the whole process since we are now actually writing to the firmware. You may want to firmly plug in your power adapter or at least check the remaining battery life. Copying is fast, but you don't want to fail on this for god's sake. After copied the files, exit FileAssistant.

After exited FileAssistant, you will see the changes if you are using a different font then the original one. If you don't you may be using the same font with the original font of the PSP, or you may need to reboot the PSP system to let it take effect (just turn it ACTUALLY off and back on).

Alternative: You can Use FlashMod v3.01 with Font Installer

Personaly i find this method a lot easier

    Whats needed:

    1) PSP (Firmware 1, 1.5, 2.0, 2.01, 2.5, or 2.60). On PSPs with firmware 2.0+, eLoader is required, as well as GTA for 2.01+)

    2) Flashmod v3.01 http://dl.qj.net/Flashmod-v3.01-with-Fo … /catid/151

    3) FontMod folder http://dl.qj.net/PSP-Font-Customization … /catid/114

    Process:

    1. Create a folder named fontmod in your ms0:/ (psp's main directory).

    2. Add your .pgf font files. Make sure you have all 20, file names are listed below:

    gb3s1518.bwfon
    jpn0.pgf
    kr0.pgf
    ltn0.pgf
    ltn1.pgf
    ltn2.pgf
    ltn3.pgf
    ltn4.pgf
    ltn5.pgf
    ltn6.pgf
    ltn7.pgf
    ltn8.pgf
    ltn9.pgf
    ltn10.pgf
    ltn11.pgf
    ltn12.pgf
    ltn13.pgf
    ltn14.pgf
    ltn15.pgf
    shadow.pgf

3.Make sure you have not changed your system.dreg(If you don't know what this is, then don't worry about it.) file. If you have change the font location back to flash0:/font.

    4. Run flashmod and choose install custom fonts from the XMB menu.

    5) Once its done exit and your new fonts will be installed

So now that you know how to install new fonts lets move on to creating new fonts

    Whats Needed:

    1) The custom fonts you want (You can get custom fonts from http://www.dafont.com/)

    2) A font converter http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/attach … entid=4217

    PROCESS

    1) Download the font converter and drag and drop it to your desktop

    2) Download your custom font and move to your desktop

    3) Start up your font converter

    4) Type in the name of your font in the font name box (e.g. fontname.ttf)

    5) Type in the size of the font you want it to be and click on the Bold or the italics box if you wish it in any of them forms and just complete all the way down

    6) Now move the cygwin1.dll file and the font you want (the same one you moved to your desktop in step 2) into the ttf2pgf program

    7) Then click Execute button

    8) Then a new file will have been made on your desktop called ltn0.pgf that is your new font in .ttf format and your now all done

You don't actually have to copy anything from or to the reg anymore, Skylark made a nice little application that you just stick in the GAME folder and run it via GTA and it changes you fonts for you, its much easier and faster that way :)

    you can get it here

Yes that does cut down on steps but since it dosent write to the flash it means you need same memory card in all the time to see your fonts

Am not sure i think you can still use it because it has the % folder which if i remember correctly is for 1.5? Just be ultra careful if you decide to use it coz am not really sure it it replaces them on 1.5's fw or just loads from the mem stick.

    hi
just a quick bit of help for anyone needing it, i think this may seem simpler
just google "psp font converter + gui" and download it extract it. then place the .ttf font in the same folder and run it. type in the name of the .ttf then put in all ur options. it leaves you with the .pgf file. install flashmod and then in the first folder u will find defaultfont or originalfont folder and then when inside replace the .pgf inside. run flashmod and "install original/default font" and ur done. o btw pricedown font at size 30 looks very good
