Ok Here is one for the hot shots I currently have a dvd palyer that will play DIVX and XVID files, however over recent weeks the files that I have used have used a different DIVX or XVID format to the ones that can be viewed by my dvd player I have down loaded the correct codec for the computer and can access the files and even convert them to dvd but I lose some of the quality. Anyway here are your starters for 10 1) is there any software on the market that will allow me to resave the files with a new codec version that I know my system will play 2) is there any free software that will allow to recode or change codec versions 3) what are the best and quickest packages to use for converting divx or xvid files to dvd hope you can help. regards jon
DivX and XviD are ASP ISO MPEG-4 video codecs. The actual build/version should make no difference. Well other than with DivX. 4.x I think was SP only and 3 wasn't strickly speaking MPEG4. 1) Sure you can just re-encode with say VDub, same issues as converting to DVD though. 2) You already asked this, well other than the free bit. VDub is free anyway. 3) Best is purely subjective and quickest depends on the settings used, not just the app.
