I have not been able to figure out a good method for controlling what happens when I put a DVD (or cd) into my DVD reader or DVD burner drives. It all seems rather unpredictable. I have four or five media players installed, and it usually seems to start with one of them, but I'm never sure which. Sometimes I get that "what should I do with files of this type" screen, but other times I don't get that screen and I don't know how to bring that screen up unless it appears automatically. I've tried checking that "do this every time" box, but after awhile it always seems to switch to something else. What I really want is to turn all of these default players OFF. I don't want anything to happen when I insert a disk. I want to decide myself what I want to do with it - play it with whatever player I choose, back it up, look at the file directory, whatever. It's annoying to always have to wait until the DVD starts up in a player and then turn it off. Who has some tips on how to control the default media players?
Put a DVD into your player then go to My Computer, Right Click on your DVD in the drive and then choose Properties, go to the Autoplay Tab and make sure that "prompt each time to choose an action" is chosen.
You can do this with each of your drives. Just click on my computer then right click on each drive one one at a time selecting properties then autoplay then select prompt me each time to choose an action for all the catagories in the dropdown menu. Be sure to click apply for every setting. Mort
