I'd like to create a DVD from other DVD files. Does Nero Vision have any way of importing chapter stops from DVD files? Or at least identifying I-frames or GOP headers? Or should I look to another part of Nero to do this?
Well, here is what i can tell you. As for the chapter, this info is stored in the IFO file I believe. To use parts of a DVD video you would have to use the VOB files which do not have chapter information in them. So because of this, you will have to make the chapters manually.
Thanks. Guess it'd be too easy if Nero Vision had an IFO mode like VideoReDo. Still, it'd be nice if Nero Vision displayed the frame type so we could set chapter stops at the i-frames or GOP headers. Just wondering if there isn't some setting that allows this. Hope I haven't heard the last word on the subject.
Couldnt you just check the chapter marks on the original source and then type the time codes into the timer in nero? Seems pretty easy.
It doesn't work as well as you might think. Having done exactly that I've examined the output of Nero Vision. I found GOPs rewritten around the chapter breaks. Unfortunately, you have no way of knowing exactly how Nero's timing corresponds with your chapter marks. If Nero Vision displayed frame numbers, you could drop your chapter stops at the exact frames the chapters occurred at originally. Alternatively, if Nero Vision would display the frame type you could just put the chapter stops at the nearest I-frames and not rewrite the surrounding GOPs (or at least you'd hope), since the actual chapter information is in the IFO, not the VOB file. The simplest thing would be for Nero Vision to open files from DVD files on your hard drive, using the IFO file to import the original chapter stops...
Thanks, anyway. I'm beginning to think that with Nero's well-documented bugginess and difficulties in doing simple things like chapters, maybe I'm getting a little tired of using Nero.
