i recently changed to a liteon dh204h as my old nec finnaly packed up. i was recently backing up some dvds (all i do is title only with dvd shrink) and burning them onto some new datawrite lightscribe discs dvd-r. (always used datawrite dvd-r and never had a problem so i got the datawrite lightscribe). anyway i have done 3 backups and when i try and play them in my dvd player (2 seperate ones tried) it just jumps into the middle of the film, maybe chapter 12 and starts there. it reads the disc as if chapter 12 is at the start. i tried jumping to the next chapter and that would be 11, then 10 then 9. from looking at the disc using scan chapter function it seems to be playing the whole disc backwards???? (well chapters backwards). anyway thought i may have cocked it up or what ever being a new drive so i tried it in the pc drive and it plays perfectly. ive been making backups for about 4-5 years and never had this kind of problem before, help me please!!
i think from what i have research is that its a problem with nero 8. i found i had to update nero for the lightscribe feature as it wasnt supported on 5.5. anyway i am just getting nero 7 now and will be trying that soon. obviously if that solves the problems i will come back here and mention it so that if anyone else is getting the same problem they can rollback to 7 and it should be ok.
Skip Nero 8 ( really bad news), instead try the following 1) output shrink (target) as Iso image 2) burn iso image with Imgburn, free from www.imgburn.com Imgburn, IMHO, is the best iso burner out there also try this http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/664041
turns out it IS nero 8 causing my problems.. gone back to 7.5 and although it took me forever to work out why lightscribe wasnt working everything is now done.
Exact same problem for me. Chapters playing in random order on a standalone DVD player, but are fine playing on the computer. Never a problem for 3 years, reinstalled about a month ago, and 'upgraded' to Nero 8. Currently uninstalling Nero 8 and going back to 6.6... Will let you know how it turns out.
Yep, definitely was the Nero 8. Nero 6.6 gives no problems. Maybe because my DVD burners are old and the one was lightscribe? Not sure. Thanks for the tip though. Problem solved. I had assumed it was bad media.
Good job ! BTW FWIW, Nero 8 has been causing this problem since it's introduction. I advise all users to go back to Nero 6 or 7
