I'm just asking the question as I've bought a smashing new telly for the bedroom, NTHell basic comes through an NTL point in the wall, and to be honest the standard of signal is way way below what the telly's capable of. Now I think I'm right in saying that whatever else the boxes can no longer do, one thing they do still do is smarten up the signal - am I right?

And if so, does anyone know where I can pick up a Eurovox, Starview, or whatever, just to do that?

Alternatively, any other suggestions to improve the signal?

You can get boxes that output an upscaled pic via HDMI, the abcom ipbox 900HD and 9000HD. They can also record to external HD, and the 9000HD can fit 2 tuners, and can record 2 stations while watching another channel or even playing back a recording while recording 2 stations all simultaneously.

I have the 900HD, and the picture quality is amazing compared to scart. They do cost more than a basic box, but I would rather get a €400 HDMI box and a €1000 LCD, than a €100 box and a €1300 LCD. The box is the weakest link in the chain and I reckon for the same €1400 you will get a better picture on the cheaper LCD with decent input.
