I have several cdr's that were burned about three years ago on an LG internal CD/DVD combo drive (HL-DT-ST CD RW GCE-8483B)--it came packaged with a Dell desktop. They sound OK, but "they" say it's a good idea to check older cdr's every so often. This LG writer doesn't support Nero/CD Speed. Is there any other way to check these discs? Thanks.
Check as in what way? The data quality of the diks or sound quality of tracks etc? Could you specify?
yes, I'm referring to error checking software. I rely on my ears for sound quality. How necessary is it to check burns for errors anyway?
Well even if your drive isn't compatible with cd/dvd speed you should be able to run a transfer test on it to see if you can re-rip and back up again. What data is on the disks btw? http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/nero_cd_speed.cfm You have the latest version of Nero Cd/Dvd Speed ye?
thanks for the links. I'll give them a try. I have music files on the discs. I was just wondering, in theory, how many times can you reburn an audio cdr before any degradation is noticeable?
Well...Every time you re-rip music from the cd it will deteriate in quality. So, in theory you can re-rip music from a cd to back it up and the qualtiy loss will not be so bad.
