Nowadays it's a myth. Chips like the DMS 4, MI, and CC are so well designed they have several safeguards against overheating the mobo/laser. The only exceptions would be a v.9/10 PS2 needing a romeo mod or v.12 a laser fix. This was a problem with first and second gen modchips, but has been alleviated since the DMS 3 on. I haven't ever come across somebody's PS2 overheating and getting destroyed that was due to a modchip.

Well I don't know what to tell you. A. Anybody that would install another chip without your consent is a con artist. B. If it won't boot now, they damn sure better fix it. If not, send them a threatening email mentioning the words lawyer and lawsuit. That'll get their attention. If they don't respond, call, fax, or keep emailing them until they do. Send it back and demand they install an MI. The H20 chip does not come close the the MI or DMS 4.

I'd see about getting a DMS 4 Pro SE installed, or simply have them remove the chip and send it to another site that does install the MI. Check the Modchip FAQ in my sig for reputable installers in the US/CA.

No prob. Shady mod sites piss me off. People should ideally do their homework and know all the ins and outs of getting a chip beforehand. But realistically very few people do, so if I can save people from shady mod a**holes, then it's worthwhile. There are plenty of reputable modders around. If I found out any modders on my list pulled what these people did to you, they'd be off the list asap and the word would be go out. Good luck getting it sorted. Report back whenever you get your new chip installed. Cheers!

Good Deal, the MI is awesome, if I don't say so myself. I use Taiyo Yuden's, 170+ PS2 backups with 0 coasters. You can order them online or try to find them locally. Your best bet is to order them online.

    86. Q. Where can I find good deals on legit Taiyo Yuden's and Verbatim's?
    A. http://www.supermediastore.com
Great List of Merchants locally, online, in the U.K., etc:
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/dvdguides/buyerguides/buymedia.htm

    106. Q. Where I can find top notch Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim media locally?
    A. This is somewhat of a crap shoot. Big manufacturer's like Fuji, Sony, and Maxell have at one point past or present payed Taiyo Yuden to manufacture media for them. The big companies slap their name on the label even though the discs were manufactured in Japan by Taiyo Yuden. These discs will always be made in Japan. Authentic TY media isn't made anywhere else. Even if it says Made in Japan on the label, there is no gauruntee of getting authentic Taiyo Yuden media. You could still end up with Sony or Fuji media codes. Hence why I said this is a crap shoot. Places like Comp USA, Office Depot, Sam's Club, and Staples will carry Made In Japan branded discs. Again there is no way to know for sure from the package whether these are authentic Taiyo Yuden's. If you don't want to risk getting non TY discs, you can find 50 packs of Verbatim in the afore mentioned chain stores. One other alternative is the Made in Japan High Grade Maxell DVD+R's. They will say Made in Japan on the label and "High Grade" as well. These are excellent media. Remember when using DVD+R's, it's best you have a burner that supports booktyping/bitsetting, and a v.4 PS2 or later. Much thanks goes to kivory666 aka "docTY" for this information. He is indeed the Taiyo Yuden master. The best place to get authentic Taiyo Yuden media is from reputable online vendors like http://www.supermediastore.com http://www.rima.com http://www.meritline.com or http://www.newegg.com

Hey i just bought the Chipmod Pro and got it installed today and i already found out something i dont like about it hehe. I noticed that this chip will not work with the Action Replay Max :(. Im guessing it wont work because the chip automatically turns off once the ps2 is done booting and so the AR Max wont recongnize copied ps2 games. Does anyone know if there is a way to get this working please? Its driving me nuts and making me regret purchasing this chip.

    Thanks,
    Joel.

That's cool, should breathe some new life into the PS2. I'm still in full Xbox mode for now, will get back to the PS2 eventually. Haven't seen ya round XS much of late. Anyway, take care man, don't want to hijack this thread.
