I have a friends xbox here and it is chipped. He has no idea which one. I want to know if there is a way to use AID to get everything back and running. One thought...if I can get his eeprom can I use my old hd...and lock it with his eeprom?

Both Slayers or AID will reinstall the corrupt dashboard!

As for the eeprom, I suppose you can, but not much use as the chips don't use eeproms!

I am going to have to hotswap his drive...when I first got it here it would boot aid but not anymore. His dvd drive has had issues in the past and has failed to load aid for me.Is it ok to turn off his chip and then softmod after the hotswap restores the drive to retail state?

See if the chip will boot 'Slayers'. If it's a DVD issue, swap your DVD drive into his temporarily.

If the chip just doesn't boot the disc, remove the chip, hotswap using my "XboxHDM Hotswap' tutorial and then softmod!

wow...I didn't think of switching out the dvd drive. I may try that. As long as I can get his hd back to retail I think I should be fine. I wish I had a bit more knowledge as to what chip he has. Is there a site that can help me id his chip? He bought the xbox from someone already modded and he is even less informed than I am.

Go to one of the modchip sites and filter through pics till you find one that looks similar, there aren't that many!

I'm not a big fan of modchips anyway!

Surprise...no modchip. I pulled the drives to check out what type of chip was in his xbox and there was nothing but a lot of dust. Made things a lot easier. I ran the hotswap and then redid the softmod. It worked beautifully. Thanks a ton for all your help Chunkhead
