I just upgraded my motherboard/ram/and processor to 512ddr 1.7g celeron. I downloaded winamp2.81 and it plays mp3's just fine - but - when I double click for visualization in winamp the audio becomes very choppy. I've increased the page swap size in windows to 1gig but that didn't help. I have a Avance 97 on board audio device with Altec Lansing speakers.

The strange thing is when I have my ATI TV running on my computer - and I change mp3's in my playlist or something like that - the TV image will momentarily distort - even when I'm browsing the web - if I click a link the mp3 audio will distort/crackle for a second. Any suggestions?

    Sounds like something like
    - IRQ conflict. If you're able to set IRQs manually in Bios, change them - make sure that audio, video card (and tv card) have unshared IRQs. If you're short of free IRQs you could disable unused devices, e.g. parallel port or 2nd serial port. You can also try to move the TV card to another slot.
    - Driver problems: I don't know if Avance 97 is a type of Via AC'97. If yes go to audio forum of http://forums.viaarena.com. There'll be some threads mentioning Via and Realtek drivers you can try - and you can get help there too.

I've gone into the BIOS and changed it from automatic to manual but that didn't solve anything because it doesn't allow me to specify which IRQ port to use. Under device manager (in windows 2000) It says I have 5 devices on IRQ 11 - my video card, sound, tv tuner, etc.. - I can't change the ports at all even when I click on properties - I can only view it - I think this is the problem like you said - IRQ conflicts. How can I resolve this?

I had similar problems some time ago and everything useful I remember is in the post above. (I guess you have allready tried everything, e.g. moving cards to another slot.) Maybe someone else knows more?

Any other suggestions? I'm currently listening to a song and with every keystroke I hear the audio skip - it's highly annoying. d;)

I just tried switching PCI slots and it changed one of 1/5 (IRQ's) but the other 4 are still on 11. How can I solve this problem? Audio still chops when viewing movies or listening to mp3's.
