guys, for any of those who have gone through the transition phase of chorus and ntl to N3, have ye any feedback. my buddy who has a standard ntl box using mmds has said that his picture has started to freeze a lot in the last few months. likewise i'm living on the changeover of chorus to n3 and in the last month i have never seen the system freeze so much. it does look that chorus and ntl will not only lose their box programming fanatics but also their regular customer base if this is how nagra3 is going to behave as a norm on mmds. any similar complaints for mmds and indeed for cable
Still using the ol E***vox etc on mmds and if its any comfort I've noticed the picture freezing in the last 2 weeks or so. Looks like it aint just the new encryption thats causing the glitches.
Thanks fuerte, i cudn't understand it. i got a new 1080p tv at the same time as this changeover and thought it must be that the emulator couldn't handle refreshing the screen. but that just didn't make sense to me. so it is true that ntl and chorus on nagra3 will be crap even if you have their crap sagem boxes. i guess now they will have to live with losing a huge customer base to sky who at least offer a decent service. while it was nice to defeat their encryption systems it is even better if you get a consistent level of picture quality. mmds is a dead technology but its nice to know that it is pointless using ntl or chorus for any future services
My fathers NTL box (very old one got it when ntl first started digital) started freezing randomly almost immediately after inserting the new N3 card they sent out last year. It used to be worse, 10 seconds or so before the remote would work after leaving it idle for a while. I guess they fixed that but sometimes when watching the pic will freeze and box wont respond for 10-20 secs. Im thinking the old NTL boxes arent really fast enough to process N3.
i suspect you are right. the new software download seems to be killing the old boxes that chorus and ntl have with customers. well it was a pretty poor service for starters but it finally looks like upc/chorus/ntl have finally handed the game completely to sky. its a pity as they have a good channel list and you don't have to contend with the hundreds of rubbish channels that sky force on you
Have to say their broadband service is really good. I was fed up with their shitty tv and customer service and so tried to get sky in but when they came out they said it's not possible so stuck with NTHELL.
hi guys i am still using the box-t (mmds land)i am not having any probs like freezing etc maybe the problem lies somewhere else just maybe
yep s.west i am currently off sick at the moment so i have been watching alot of tv recently and the only glitch was yesterday eve during the man u game when a no signal appeared i thought this is it but 5 seconds later its ok again we are probably receiving from the same transmitter (tralee)
been talking to a few buddies on NTL using standard NTL boxes in West Galway. They say the service recently has started freezing a lot. I put back in my own Chorus box to compare against my dreambox and the freezing is much, much worse with the crap Chorus box. I think NTL/Chorus have a serious issue with their rollout. Most of their receiver boxes are so outdated it may be the case that they will have to replace all these boxes (I talk about MMDS in particular). This may stop them in their tracks. It may cost them a lot more than they expect with the new encryption. Already two of the guys in Galway have moved to Sky as the service has got so bad. I think there will be lots to follow
