Hey guys, I'm fairly new to AfterDawn but not so new to DVD Shrink and the other proggies I'm using. I've read some really helpful posts on here, and have now run into a problem of my own that hasn't yet been discussed. (That I've seen) I just picked up Christmas With The Kranks, and I'm getting the usual "Cyclic Redundancy Errors". I use DVD Shrink, generally, to rip the disc to my HD...but with that error message, I've tried DVD Decrypter, DVD Fab, DVD Shrink...all with AnyDvd running behind it. Nothing seems to be working for me. Any ideas?
Probably a bad disc. Is it scratched up? Can you exchange it for another press? Maybe just a real good cleaning would help.
It could be a dirty or scratched disk so clean or take it back. Can't help much on whether it is protection problem since that movie is not due for release until next week.
Maybe a bad disc. What's the exact error you getting and during what process:ripping/compressing/or burning? When dvd shrink/dvd decrypter/dvdfab decrypter/and anydvd fail for me,then dvdfab decrypter express works for me. You can get a free trial here: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvdfab_express.cfm Try activating anydvd/use dvdfab decrypter express/and burn! That's the only program I could get to backup lords of dogtown and bewitched. Good Luck!
Christmas With The Kranks is a Sony release, so it may have the same encryption that Lords Of Dogtown has.
Sony: UGGH! Trendkillefinitely try dvdfab decrypter express. Anydvd also had a new update this week, you may have to check for that update. Here's the symptoms those newer sony arccos encryptions give me: Dvd shrink won't recognize the original Dvd decrypter and dvd fab decryper will rip,but dvd shrink won't open up the ISo to compress. Activating anydvd with dvd decrypter and dvdfab decryptervd shrink still couldn't open up the iso file. Dvdfab decrypter express/anydvd/ and then I burned with dvdfab decrypter express on dual layers. I believe this program uses copytodvd? I also used dvdfab decrypter express/anydvd/ to hard drive, then dvd shrink was able to open up the iso to compress and burn with your favorite program.
DVD Fab Express is what I use if all else fails...due to the Lords of Dogtown problem, but even that failed for me. I'll try the update for AnyDvd and see if that works. Lords of Dogtown and Bewitched gave an "Invalid DVD Structure" error, Christmas With The Kranks isn't giving that error...just seems to have that nasty Sony encryption.
Heres anydvd's info about it. Summary for drive F: (AnyDVD 5.5.1.1) Drive (Hardware) Region: 1 Media is a Data DVD. Booktype: dvd-rom (version 1), Layers: 2 (parallel) Video DVD (or CD) label: CHRISTMAS_WITH_THE_KRANKS Media is CSS protected! Video Standard: NTSC Media is locked to region(s): 1 3! Found & removed RCE protection! DVD structure appears to be correct. Structural copy protection not found. Found & removed Autorun from Video DVD! Bad sector protection not found. Emulating RPC-2 drive with region 1!
I use anydvd no matter what, it uses only a tiny bit of memory but there is a setting that lets you change the firstplay to either the root menu or the main movie, so you dont have 20 minutes of bullshit in the beginning.
I think there may be a bad batch of discs. I tried Shrink and Decrypter without luck until I move the disc from my 16P9S and to my Q28A which read it just fine. There is a visible anomoly in the surface of the disc that I bought.
