what do you mean by filter?

to do all that stuff you would first have to take off the cover.there are some tabs on the bottom of the ps2 that pop off.then you take out the screws underneath those tabs.when you removed all the screws then slowly take off the ps2 cover.there is a reset ribbon attached to the cover and the ps2 so dont yank it off.just tack the cver off a few inches and and look for the ribbon before you take the cover off completely.for the fan and the filter you could use compressed air to clean them.to clean the lens you have to take off the cover to the dvdtray.you need a tiny jewelers philips screwdriver to take the screws out.after that you take off that cover and clean the lens with alcohol and cotton swab(q-tip).dip the swab in alcohol, squeeze out the excess and give the lens a few gentle swipes, then use the dry end of the swab and wipe gently afew times to dry the lens.you might want to repeat to make sure it is clean.and then you put it aqll back together.the only risky part is making sure you dont rip off the reset ribbon.

i do it the easy way, get a hoover and hoover out all the dust from the "vents" at the front and back, as for the lens, how the hell can that get dirty, i mean its covered by the disk tray cover and the pS2 casing, and it can't realy go thru the disc tray cos it only open 4 a few seconds.

dust gets in thru the tray opening over a period of time.also thru cooling vent.dust hovers and floats then settles so when it enters the ps2 it might settle at the bottom of the ps2 and when the disc starts spinning it stirs it up and when you turn the game off it settles on a hot lens and builds up over a period of time.its not gonna happen overnight.

also if you ever drop your ps2 while it is playing a game(ive knocked it over like this before) the disc could make contact with the lens leaving a plastic smudge mark on the glass lens.cleaner discs wont remove this mark so cleaning the lens with a cotton swab and alcohol works best.i did that to the ps2 i dropped that would no longer read certain media and fixed that problem.
