    Hey all,
    I've looked all over the forum and can't seem to find any advice on how to clean my taiyo yuden discs when they smudge or get fingerprints. Any advice would help or do you simply treat them like regular dvd's? Thanks in advance.

    Try some detergent soap or toothpaste.

    Plus writable dvd's are not a fraction as durable as commercial 'pressed' ie original movie discs. Commercial discs are not as durable as they should be either hence why we back them up, but in all honesty you shold be handling any form of discs very carefully, never touch the underside. Also, try to keep the topside clean, any grime can come off inside dvd players, recorders and dvd burners.

    I personally find that recordable cd's are much more durable than recordable dvd's.

    Just use some alcohol, the higher concentration and something that won't leave lint.

    My experience has been first use a lint free cotton cloth - then, In this order (of course try after each step) Spit, Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol, Non-abrasive tooth paste, Pledge furniture polish - and if this fails, Brasso. You should try them all first - I now start with Spit (some people call it saliva) but Brasso works best for really bad discs.

    @Jo

    Yup, cleaning discs and palate! Actually use alcohol and a paper towel and sometimes wipe them dry on my clean shirt.

    91% alcohol - Radial Cleaner ( One with a Round or O shaped Cleaning Pad only ) If they have the bean or Kidney shaped Cleaning pad they;ll Scratch your disc in my experience ! They're cheap you can find them for $5.00 or so . Keep your Fingers and household debris off your disc curface in the first place handle them by the edges like ya' suppose to !!!! - Merry Christmas or whichever tradition you observe ? Peace Out !!!

    When ever i get a finger print on a disc, I use filtered water to clean it(don't use unfiltered water. It contains minerals in it that can cause micro scratches on the surface which could cause read error/ read problems). Then I use a clean bathroom towel to clean and dry it(make that it is a really soft one and doesn't have garbage on it).

    I don't think you should use paper towel. Paper towel is basically a really fine grit of sand paper. Plus it is made of wood.

    Eyeglass cleaner wiping away from the center towards the edge of the disc. Not around the disc.

    toothpaste works wonders on a disc with some scratches and minor smudges. but please do not use the kind that has the tarter control with it has like a grit to the toothpaste. it will waste a disc quick like.... hte best i think is the original crest. nice and smooth cleans them up nicely.

    Garmoon and Gentlemen in the same sentence???????lol jokeing buddy

    Haha, what's wrong with offering advice to solve problems that will occur in the future-I call that going an extra mile, some people appreciate that:).
    In my case, depends on what caused the smudge. If for example it were from the chocolate peanut butter and jelly double stacker sandwich that I just ate, then I'd give it a good lick and dry it with my clean,soft cotton shirt:)
