I've tried to rip CD2 of the Bob Newhart Anthology with several different burners, namely Roxio CD & DVD Creator and Clone CD. With Roxio there is an error and the disc will not rip. With Clone CD everything seems to work properly and the rip goes to completion. But when I try to play the burned CD-R it is blank. I am using a Samsung DVD+ROM SD616E player and an NEC DVD+RW ND2100AD burner. I tried burning at 40X and at 4X, all with the same results. Could there be protection on this disc preventing the burn? Disc 1 of the Anthology buned easily as did several other CDs. Is the problem with the software, hardware or original CD?

I would try a CD+R. Maybe your drive can't read CD-R. Howeverm I'm not sure how you could burn to a CD-R if that was the case. Worth a shot.

As far as I know, there is no CD+R. All the CDs I've seen are either CD-R or CD-RW. I've burned hundreds of CDs using these discs with great success however a few give me lots of trouble and the Bob Newhart Anthology disc 2 is one of those. Disc 1 burned perfectly. Is it the original CD, the software, the read drive or the burn drive? I don't know that's why I'm asking for help.

I've been trying to burn this CD and it seems that the one error always popping up is "Invalid field in CDB". Could this be a copy-protect problem? I've tried AnyDVD without success. I've also tried Roxio Media Creator 7.5 and Nero 7 Ultra as well as CloneCD and CD X Rescue, all ended in failure. Does anyone have any ideas?

Why itunes? Is it more powerful than Roxio or Nero? I don't need to pay for another software burn program, especially one that's geared to downloading music to ipods.

I use TDK CD-R 52X, 700MB, 80 Min burnable CDs.I also use the same type manufactured by Nexxtech. I use these when I burn music. For video I use DVD+R discs.

my suggestion is to try the trial of AnyDVD, which currently neutralizes all forms of copy protection on production dvds and cds. if you can't rip with that and get a successful burn, my next guess would be a bad pressing of the cd.

I bought AnyDVD and it didn't help. I tried two separate copies of the disc Anthology, both with the same results. I will try a third and if the results are the same, I can only assume that something is embedded in the disc that prevents it from being copied. What puzzles me is that disc 1 of the set copied perfectly.

suggestion for an experiment: trying ripping the disc to a lossless audio format with Windows Media Player...i don't know what, but for some reason the voices in the back of my head say to try this :p if it rips with WMP, you an just burn a cd from the files....

New rip and burn software, same results. I made two coasters, TDK and Nexxtech, by ripping and trying to burn using WMP. The error message was: WMP cannot burn files to CD. Verify disc is clean and not damaged. If necessary select a slower recording speed or try a different brand of discs. I ran at fastest and at 2X using two different brands of disc. I still feel that there is something in the disc that is causing the problem.

wow...i can honestly say i've never run into this issue. cd protection is, for the most part, extremely weak. i'm going to have to ponder this for a bit.

I obtained a third copy of Disc 2 of Anthology and proceeded to rip and burn at 8X using Roxio 6 and a Nexxtech CD-R. The burn seemed to go along perfectly until it reached track 13 of 14. It slowed down after 22% was copied and at 26% an error message appeared: Illegal mode for this track (05/64/00). This is very similar to the other error messages I encountered leading me to believe that there is something on this disc preventing a burn. Does anyone know what it might be?

Eureka! I solved my problem by replacing my old NEC DVD+RW ND1200A burner with a new NEC ND3550A burner and my TDK discs burn perfectly, and a a much faster rate. Thank you everyone who offered their assistance.
