Hello. I have been using Clone DVD for about a year and am frustrated by the fact that it never burns a dvd disc on the first try. I have been using RW discs to avoid the waste but each time I put a new dvd in to burn to I get a bad media error message. I simple reinsert the same disc, choose the overwrite option and the dvd burns fine. This takes twice as long. Any remedy? It is frustrating. Also, as of late, the same brand discs that I have been using will not play in my dvd player. I get a no disc error. does this have anything to do with the burning process. I have cleaned the dvd player with a cleaning disc. the dvd's work fine in my computer.

    Thanks for any insight.

Do not know actually what type of insight I may provide, but I can tell you that backing up DVDs is certainly not a straight forward task. Why? I can not tell you. One would think that you could just "do it" and one would be wrong. Just because you have a DVD burner, player, and the software doesn't mean one can just make it happen.

There are many extraneous forces at work here. System memory, old burners, burners with outdated firmware, cheap media, burn speed used on the drive etc. Each and all of them have to come together to make the task satisfactory.

Personally, I did not think it was actually something that could be accomplished and was only something in most people's dreams just a while ago. However, I now found the correct combination for me and it works.

While I would not just Willey nilley recommend my solution to everyone, I can tell you that I solved all of my problems without ever really knowing what it was. I was attempting to achieve the illusive DVD backup task on my computer (5 year old gateway with only 256 K of RAM and a DVD burner less than 2 years old) I believed I could overcome any obstacles and in fact I did. My solution? I purchased a brand new powerhouse DELL XPS400 and all of my problems were solved. Perfect backups of all of my purchases. fine indeed.........and NO, I bought the computer because I needed it, not to make backups. I did discover, however, that my problem DVD backups had to be related to one of the items I mentioned at the beginning of this post.

First of all, how old is your burner? Do you have the latest firmware for your burner? If not download from here: http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php
Second, what kind of media are you using? Try to use media like fuji taiyo yuden, maxell, made in japan or verbratim.
Third thing you need to do is to defrag your harddisk.
After trying all these, you should able to solve your problems.

Thanks for the help. My burner is a Lite-On, installed about 3 months ago; I have been using ridata +RW media and will change that to one of the brands recommended. I'll give the defrag a try too. thanks for the help.

yeah Taiyo Yuden and or Verbatim is the way to go and remember to burn at 4x on a clean machine with the lastest firmware without other programs running while burning should fix it
