i just updated firmware for ma-in-laws box. i looked through slots, saw the little green things, no red blob on screw, tuner visible for 12 slots. assumed it was genuine blue box and applied firmware. reset factory settings, tried to scan....nothing. tried again with firmware, scanned... still nothing. guessed at trying clone firmware and...bingo!!! works fine. anyone else found the same?... and why?
hmmm maybe yes karl. but as i said in OP,it has the little green things (capicitors or whatever) and the red blob over screw was missing, ...which i thought were the hallmarks of a clone???? so i am asking, has anyone else seen this before?
Clone firmware will work on originals .... but not the other way round... you will fry the box if you do!!!
ust because you dont see any red (blops) dosn't mean its not a clone popeye have a look in here http://www.freewebs.com/euroclone/

hi karl, i have looked there and yes the red blob isnt evident, but there are no green capicitors on the clone whereas there are some in this machine i have flashed with clone firmware. which poses the question.... why does a genuine looking box ( and i'm sure it is because i bought it at same time and place as mine) not accept the same firmware i put on my box?
