    Hi,

I have a friend who loaded the new Starview firmware on to a cloned box, he had no idea he had a clone. Now it wont switch on, is it dead for good?

No ... get the 257 flash file which is specific for clones from http://eko.4shared.com (Starview folder then Firmware folder)

Leave the box turned off ... start to flash the BIN file as per normal then after about a count of 3 turn on the clone box.

It might take a few attempts to get this right but eventually you will succeed.

Next time, do take the trouble to read up on things first ... bull in a china shop syndrome leads to dead clone box >)

Thanks topcat, I've had a few trys and no luck so far. I'm not getting any lights on the starview at all but I can kinda hear it powering on. Should I keep trying, or should I be seeing lights on the LCD?

If there's no lights at all, it might be time to get a new box ... sounds like one of the capacitors has died internally

    Doesn't sound too good.

Any other possible fixes, or will he be borrowing my spare?

Lend him the spare and give the deceased box a decent send off

It sounds like the SV needs to be jtagged. You can do this yourself, or have it done for you. Do a search on fleabay, and you should find both options available to you, buy the cable and fix it yourself, and also people offering to do it.
If you are technically minded, you could build a cable yourself for a few euros / pounds. I made one myself last year from an old serial cable, and 5 resistors. It didn't look pretty, but it revived my dead clone, which still works to this day.

Eamo, firstly, thanks for taking the time to reply.

Secondly, I've read over the whole jtag business and it seems a little out of my depth. Can you reccomend anybody in the Dublin area who could help me out, don't want to throw away a box if it can be saved?
