    Hello,
I just got the trial for anydvd yesterday and I burned a couple of disks with Nero Recode. Was thinking about getting Clonedvd but would like an opinion or 2 on which program is better? Does Clonedvd shrink in addition to copy? Just wondering which is better.
I will probably get the trial for clonedvd, but I figured I would ask here first, as I am new and don't want a gazillion programs that I am not going to use.

    TIA

Clonedvd is a great product. Def worth trying out or you could try DVD Shrink in combination with Anydvd. Shrink was made by the person who made Nero's Recode. Older and no longer updated but still works great.

Best bet's to always try out stuff and see what works best for you, esp if there are free options.

    @new2dvds,
I have both Nero Recode & CloneDVD 2. Neither of these will copy a "Protected" DVD. Not by themself. AnyDVD from Slysoft will "Rip" it for you.(Remove Protection) Used with CloneDVD 2 I have found it to be unstoppable!Of course you need AnyDVD with Recode as well. I have extensively used both & in My opinion CloneDVD 2 is hands down the Best!!!
YES, CloneDVD 2 "Shrinks" the movie VERY well & Faster than DVD Shrink, or let's you "Clone" th entire DVD to a single layer or Dual Layer Blank Disc. Word to the wise: USE GOOD QUALITY Media! I would go ahead & download the FREE 21 day unlimited use trial from Slysoft.com of BOTH these. There is a Good Guide Here at AfterDawn for CloneDVD 2. Or it is also at Slysoft's site. Here's a link to download BOTH 7 use UNLIMITED times for 21 days. After that, you'll have to Buy or Uninstall.Take My advice & buy BOTH as a "Package" to save $$$$! Each is $39.00 by itself. Together they're $52.00. Do the Math. Also, if you buy these. SAVE your license "Keys" for both to a Floppy disc. Keep in a safe place in the event you need to format your Hard Drive. Or get a New PC. Etc. Good Luck! By the way, GOOD Media means Sony, Fuji, Maxell, Verbatim."I" get Best results from DVD+R. Depends on your Burner & compatibilty with your DVD Player.

    I Toatally Agree Jeanc1 !
In fact. This Combination is really all you need in 1 nice package! Of course with some Decent DVD Media! I don't know why some people insist on using "Memosux" or any other CMC Mag made media, etc. Then they post "issues" with Burns. :0
I have found that CloneDVD 2 with AnyDVD gives me The Best Quality Back-Ups of anything out there. And, CloneDVD 2 is so easy to use too! I backed up "The Man" last night with CloneDVD 2 in right at 16 minutes from start to finished back-up. Try THAT with DVD Shrink! DVD Shrink is OK if someone wants totally FREE for life with No More Updates ever. But Like "Xcopy", it had it's day. Now it's outdated.
    Agreed Jeanc1?

clonedvd2 is a good program, with good output quality, but IMHO, recode2 produces a little(underline a little)quality than clonedvd2. i have them both, clonedvd2 is much faster than recode2 but i choose recode2 everytime, specially when the compression is much.

decrypter or fabdecryptern with anydvd if need it/recode2 to a folder/ copytodvd is the way i go lately.

shink-as good as recode2 but much slower.
dvd2one- good and fast, i still like recode2
clonedvd-great, the problem is that recode2 is better.
recode2-since its quality is as good as that of shrink and beacuse is much faster than shrink, is the best transcoder outthere.

Recode2 gains a quality edge when "advance analysis" is selected. If that were not "checked," it would be just as fast as CloneDVD2. In addition, Recode2 gains points for its reauthoring (remake) capabilities, multiple copy option, and its ability to booktype to -ROM...

Don't get me wrong, CloneDVD2 is great, but MY preference is Recode2. Add in the fact that you can get Nero OEM Suite for $8 shipped (includes BurningROM and Recode2 among other proggies), and it is a great deal. Especially since Slysoft patches AnyDVD to perform flawlessly with Recode2. When that ends, then CloneDVD2 will be added to my arsenal permanently as well...

Could never get recode to work well for me, it always came up with an excuse not to read, or burn, nightmare!! If an app doesn't work first time everytime it gets booted, as I have NO patience whatsoever.

CloneDvd2 & AnyDvd rocks, it just works for me everytime!

I will concede that AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 are flawless everytime... However, the folks at Slysoft bend over backwards to tweak AnyDVD to keep Shrink and Recode2 in the game... I have AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 as well as Recode2. I am just saying that as long as Slysoft's AnyDVD works well with Recode2, that is MY first choice as I have never had any issues with Recode2.

I have recode, but I just never use it! Lots here use it as a first choice. I even got nero7, did not like the way it defaulted all my vid files to showtime, inspite of my asking it not to in set up. I just absolutely despise showtimes' interface, the "buttons" are pathetically small, you need a microcope to see which button does what & is a nightmare to work the way [bold]I[/bold] want it to. I hate it when an app will not do as I wish straight away, like I say no patience!
    I just use WinDvd5, works everytime, nice interface. I uninstalled nero7, & re-installed nero6, I just hate nero7, end of story.

I only use nero ROM for burning CDs.

as i said before, it is matter of quality and speed for me. recode2 is right in the middle of shrink and clonedvd2; its output quality is as good as that of shrink, but faster than shrink and although slower(because of deep analysis and AEC)than clonedvd2,its quality is better, a little better.

@Elizerroj & teflonmyk, As I have said before, I have never got on with recode, I have no quality issues with CloneDvd2, as I just do movie only. This is not a competition, I am just saying what I prefer. If you like recode, fine! Don't go on about it. Whatever floats your boat, there is no need to re-iterate & re-iterate again what you are saying. I am perfectly capable of reading & comprehending what is being said. I am not a 3yr old child, I have fairly good linguistic capabilities.

[bold]Can't understand why you feel the incessant need to repeat yourselves just to make a point about recode![/bold]

    @ pulsar

Sorry you took that the wrong way. The intention of my posts were to point out that Slysoft's AnyDVD in the background makes either of them a great choice! Everyone has their personal preferences, and I am not out to convince anyone to make a switch or to bash their choices... I am just pointing out my "likes" as you have pointed out your "dislikes" because, inevitably, someone WILL ask later...

    Edit:

    @ new2dvds

Whichever transcoder you decide on, AnyDVD is definitely worth the $$$...

This is MY experience with CloneDVD 2 vs. Nero recode: I like both. However, there have been several times when a New "Protection" "cough" -sony- comes out that Slysoft hasn't fixed, "Yet" (They ALWAYS DO), CloneDVD 2 with AnyDVD did fine while Nero "froze up". Recode or any Nero program. I still occasionally use Recode & AnyDVD. But My preference overall is CloneDVD 2 & AnyDVD. It REALLY IS a matter of "Personal Preference". I have just found that with many back-ups done, CloneDVD 2 has overall done EVERY one with Great results. Besides, CloneDVD 2 & AnyDVD are sort of "made for each other"! Right? :) Why else would Slysoft sell both?
I hope that this is taken in the matter it is posted as: Whatever works for anyone best, use it. @ new2dvds, TRY CloneDVD 2 for the 21 days, see what YOU think. Follow the guides here. It's actually a very easy program to use. With AnyDVD, when Slysoft releases an update, install it!

can't go wrong with clonedvd2, great program, i did two copies of "The fog" yesterday, one with Recode2 and one with clonedvd2, cloedvd2's one was great and i did not had to use vobblanker first, i just prefer recode2, even if i have to use vobblanker first.
