I've been using ANYDVD and CLONEDVD2 for over a year. Typical backup times were 20 minutes to write to disk and another 20 minutes to burn the image. Now my write to disk time is 60+ minutes and the burn time is 35+ minutes. I have checked the and my IDE controller is set to DMA mode (not PIO). Any ideas?
Try reinstalling them both anyways. I seen times when it says DMA but acts more like PIo. Reinstalling usually helps.
You may not have done any defrag for the whole year & your HDD is very cluttered. If you have a big HDD - more than 80Gb, you should have a dedicated partition of at least 20Gb mainly for DVD ripping & defrag each time before you rip. Then your ripping & burning will have no problems.
CloneDVD 2 Slow? I can't agree. I just backed-up "The Legend of Zorro" with CloneDVD 2 & AnyDVD movie only, The ENTIRE process took <18 minutes. This is a 2 hour movie too. If this software is Slow, you must have a hardware problem or something.
Are u using a dvd rom drive or a dvd re writer drive to read the discs,Im only asking as a re writer reads at a faster speed than a dvd rom drive. All the tips in recent threads are all good advise work through them and see how u get on.
I recently installed CloneDvd2, and am having problems with the read speed. The first read was perfect, but all subsequent are taking twice as long as it should. I checked with the settings as per this thread: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038 My IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers are nothing like indicated. My drives are in the third controller (Nvidia nForce4Parallel ATA Controller) Master drive (LG 4163b: transfer mode (ultra dma2-ultra 33) is greyed out, let BIOS select transfer mode is checked Slave drive: ditto Should I uncheck "let BIOS select transfer mode"??? Thanks in advance.
I just did a backup with DvdXCopy 4.0.4.15, and the reading times are where they should be. Thankfully I still had some 4x discs. Oh well, I shall persevere.
Why IS Clonedvd2 so much slower than DvdXCopy? I will use this thread to carry on. I recently downloaded CloneDvd2 after all the praises and decided to give a review from an "idiot's" point of view. Things I like so far: 1. Fairly straight forward interface, easy to figure out. But then, I've had a lot of practice with XCopy 4.0.4.15. 2. Would do the backups that before would not play on my Toshiba, ie. 25th Hour, Cold Creek Manor, etc. 3. Was able to take the subtitles off my Roots 25th Anniversay Edition, and am now able to watch without having to cart another player downstairs and hooking it up. (BTW. Thanks a lot Warner for ripping me off, a consumer who actually buys. Oh yeah, what's with the 1 disc (movie only) versions now at the same or higher price than what a 2 disc version used to cost? Great, for all consumers that bought the last 3 - 2 disc versions of the Harry Potter series, guess what!!!!. Yuppers, "Goblet of Fire" will be offered in 1 and 2 disc versions. WTG! Yes, I'm being sarcastic. Just keep socking it to your consumers! http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pr...angid=EN&sku_id=0665000FSM2109480&catid=14744 http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pr...angid=EN&sku_id=0665000FSM2109482&catid=14744 THANK YOU AFTERDAWN FOR LETTING ME RANT!! 4. Change the audio from default. 5. Can control speed of burn, so am able to use my new system. Things I don't like: 1. It's sooooo slow. This is on a newer computer. My 5 year old machine is faster with XCopy. 2. Quality wise, I really don't see much difference. I am going to have to use the zoom and take digital pictures and compare. 3. I can't seem to find a "change target size". I haven't got around to splitting discs yet. I will have to try to do my Sopranos in a few days and get back. Haven't had much time, tax season and all. I also have Band of Brothers, among others, that I can try and split. Heck, don't want the originals of these stolen at work.
@mackdl, Uninstall the Nforce4 IDE/PATA drivers. I did and it works much faster. Go to add/remove programs, find Nvidia drivers, click it & select uninstall the PATA IDE drivers. Let Windows XP install it's drivers to control the devices. By the way, Xcopy & AnyDVD are not very compatible. Xcopy is out of date anyway. I uninstalled mine a Long time ago after I bought AnyDVD. After you uninstall evrything, use Crap Cleaner to fix registry issues. Get it here: http://ccleaner.com/ccdownload.asp Select the issues button, scan, fix all.Repeat till all issues are gone. Defrag your drive. By the way, I've used Xcopy, Nero Recode, and CloneDVD 2 is the fastest and Best Quality Back Up Software I have seen. Example, I backed up Legend of Zorro, Main movie only in less than 18 minutes from start to finished back up. Not stretching it at all. Really.
Thank you for the info Bunnyrip. Are the Nvidia drivers part of my video card? I will have a screen if I uninstall, right? Sorry if I seem dense, but when it comes to computers I am.
@mackdl, No, the Nvidia Nforce4 Chipset drivers are not the same as your graphics card drivers. If you have the latest version, you may uninstall through "Nvidia Drivers" in your Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs. Just select Nvidia Drivers & it will list which Nvidia drivers to remove. There will be at least 2 or 3. Uninstall the PATA/ IDE drivers. Leave the rest there. Re-Start. Note: In case you accidentally remove the Graphics drivers. Before you do the previous mentioned. Download the appropriate Nvidia Graphics drivers from Nvidia.com. Save to desktop. This way, if you lose those, you can re-install them from the saved file.
I've been using an old DVD X Copy which I've owned since 2001, but now I'm trying to migrate everything over to a newer, faster machine. However, I can't register the software because the product code and password are not accepted. If registration for DVD X Copy is hopeless, will the CloneDVD2 and AnyDVD combo be a good replacement for copying movies sold in the US? There's a different DVD player in every bedroom, so hardware compatibility is really important. I have a + or - writer , if that matters.
@dirtfarm You can still get activations for DvdXCopy, but you have to send in a ticket. http://www.dvdxcopy-international.com/ Anydvd/Clonedvd2 combination does everything Dvdxcopy does and more. You can "try" both for 21 days. Check out booktyping +r's to dvd-rom if you want to overcome compatibility issues. http://my.afterdawn.com/locoeng/blog_entry.cfm/217
@bunnyrip I did all that you suggested, but am still having slow reads. Any more suggestions? Thanks again for your help.
Sorry if I seem impatient, but I am running out of TRIAL time. I still have the "slow" compared to DvdXCopy issue. I also have some more questions: Is there a control button for media target size? CloneDvd2 seems to be burning to the edge 4.34/4.35, same as DVDXCopy. Anyway to make the tray open (eject) when finished? I especially liked this feature with DvdXCopy. I've tried to locate some dual layer media at a reasonable price. No luck, still sky high. I've notice very few retailers carry dual layer, and very little stock if they do. It is my feeling that dual layer media is going to become obsolete once HD-Dvd or Blu-Ray comes into effect. Perhaps people living in the larger cities can enlighten me on their thoughts?
