Im on an older HP laptop and for the past four years I have been using a dvd burner (NEC3520AW) hooked up through USB via an external enclosure. Its been working fine all this time up until the other day. I turned off my computer one night and then the next day my computer all of a sudden cannot recognize my external drive. Ive researched this problem on the internet and have done everything other people have said, ive uninstalled the usbs ports and let windows reinstall the drivers which is what solved most peoples problems. i get the "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" error even after uninstalling and reinstalling. Ive hooked up the drive via the external enclosure to someone elses PC and it gave the same error, but once we put the drive internally into his PC the drive worked just fine. So at this point we were thinking its just the enclosure for some reason, but we tried it on a different enclosure and it produced the same results. So basically for some reason the dvd drive now only works internally and doesnt want to work with any external enclosure. Is there any solution to this problem? thanks for your help in advance, i really appreciate it!

    badmagic,
Do you have the latest firmware for you burner? You can use ImgBurn to check for updates. Go Here. Hopefully, this will resolve your problem. Good luck!
