Ok I have a lot of episodes from a show coded for mpeg4/2 and my new dvd player plays mpeg4 and divx3.1. i can't find a converter that will alow me to code these files for divx3.1 the only options the converter i have gives me are "Avi,Mpeg,WMV,RM" even in the advanced tab i cannot choose a certain divx code that i need or downgrade to good old mpeg4(what was wrong with that one?). Maybe this question is moot b/c i am trying to fit a file(700mb mpeg4/2) on a cd-r. Do you think a lower conversion will probably increase file size.

some players using 3.1 can play divx codec 5 but not all does your player work with mpeg 1 or 2 you may have to convert to that or just buy a newer divx player on sale now is a phillips and I have a new toshiba works great less than a c note. maybe you convert it to dvd here is a free program for doing that http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_encoders/vso_divxtodvd_free.cfm I also use cucosoft conversion software to convert to vcd/dvd and avi to mpeg http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_encoders/cucusoft_converterpro.cfm both of these programs can handle mutliple file types

I tried the conversion techniques, but all of them made my files larger than I wanted. I ended up buying a new video card and using the s-video output for direct connection with my entertainment center. Thank you for the ideas though.
