I could play everything ok before, but I wanted to join some files together (film on 2 files) and it turns out I had some old Xvid codecs installed that wouln't allow VD to work proparly.
So I deleted my codec packs (I also thought the codecs too) and installed a more up to date codec (Nimo build 8).
Now a lot of my old films won't play proparly/at all.
I'm trying to resolve this, but I need some help.

I ran some films through gspot, and its coming up with 3 or more codecs able to play a file, hence the conflict.

I've found something to show me what filters and codecs are intsalled (codec sniper), and its showing thats I have, 103 codecs installed! (i uninstalled other codec packs, but the damn thing have left them on the system).

So my main question is, what MAIN codecs do I need, so that I can delete all the un needed ones and start from scratch (the warning' at the bottom of the program saying 'this program can use turn your video machine into a unusable state' makes me want to check a few times that i'm removing somethign un needed).

What a good example what codec packs can do especially when you don't know what to install from them.
For viewing ffdshow + ac3filter would do fine.
But if you wanna do some encoding xvid + ac3filter and divx if you want.
At least with those I do just fine.

    This might be usefull:
