Have recently downloaded an avi file and when I try to play on WMP I get no picture only sound. It says there is a codec error. Have tried downloading GSpot and finding a solution but don't really have a clue.

    Please help.

So, you tried to download GSpot, but you didn't get it-? Okay, what did it say for the name of codec and was it installed to your system? Use better players like BSPlayer or Media Player Classic.

Try download and install K-Lite Codec Pack (full or mega version). It contains most, if not all, of the codecs you'll ever need, plus GSpot, plus Media Player Classic, an all purpose media player, plus .................. *_*

    Happy avi viewing!

Yes, like scf_au mentions, that codec package most likely will solve practically every problem you could have. Cheers

Better avoid to any mega coode packs.. don't install them, especially if you're newbie. If you want a trouble, install codec packs. Install only codecs you need.. If only viewing AVIs, then FFDSHOW, AC-3 filter and Media Player Classic are enough for that.

Well if you are trying to keep things simple, then there really isn't anything that AC3Filter can do that ffdshow can't.
