thanks dela.i downloaded the mp3 codec and it is definately in stalled so i went to encode my movie and the end result still had no sound.the file is solaris dvd scr xvid-dcn.i dont know if that si any help.it also comes up video codec is mpeg 4 which i have and audio mpeg layer 3 which i now have.do you think maybe i should encode with avi to vcd.will that work?i don't know.and the other instructions for the ac3 codec movie seems really complicated for my inteligence.is there and encoding program that will encode a avi divx that supports ac3 codec movie?i hope i make sense.i seem to have all the difficult questions these days.thanks

and dela just to add on to my last post i tried to do the audio with virtual dub and it still comes up saying that it is being used by another process but i cant find it anywhere.maybe i should just delete them,i was looking into a tv out adapter to watch straight from pc to tv.maybe that would be less headaches hey.

I dont think that theres an encoder that can handle ac3 audio. you could try dvd2svcd if you're interested?
