Ok, I'm trying to backup College Hoops 2K6. I have a v7 PS2, flip top case, swap magic 3.6, BenQ DW1620 dvd burner, Taiyo Yuden DVD+R 8x. I tried burning normally, just coping the iso, didn't work. Thought it was a bad burn, tried the same thing again, didn't work. I then rebuilt it (properly) and it still does not work. Everytime the game would try to load, it would make this machine gun like studdering noise (happened on all 3 discs). I tried special boot and that didn't work. I have searched several sites nd cannot find a ripkit/patch and others have had problems with this game, while others have had it work fine. I'm lost, anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Austin
Hey Im new to burning ps2 games could you drop me a line let me know what i need to get started.. I have a xbox but Im getting a ps2 i hear they easier to play backup games on......singlescmale2002@yahoo.com
Im having the same problem, I havent been doing so hot on backing up my newer games. I've been making a ton of coasters. I dont think my isobuster is working right because lately instead of a lot of folders coming up right away, it puts them in a data folder. All help is appreciated.
@ Austin0wn Try booktyping the DVD+R's. 53. Q. What is Booktyping? A. Booktyping is the ability to burn a DVD+R so it that appears as a pressed DVD-ROM in any DVD-ROM drive it's inserted in. If you booktype DVD+R's, this allows for greater compatibility with most stand alone DVD players, including your PS2. Your burner has to support booktyping (most newer ones do). Booktyping with Nero and DVD Decrypter: http://www.k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php @ hooper2 What kind of media are you using? You should really only be using IsoBuster to rebuild games, not for making a straight burn. Try using DVD Decrypter instead. 1. Q. How do I burn PS2 games? A. Use DVD Decrypter. Guide: http://www.angelfire.com/games6/easytutorial/dvddec/dvddec.html Burn at 4x on an 8x DVD-R. 2. Q. Does the type of media I use matter? A. YES: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/240341 If you're too lazy to read, use Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Ritek, Sony, TDK, Maxell, Sony or Phillips DVD-R's. Avoid Memorex, Staples, Imation, Dynex, Princo, Bulqpaq, etc. CMC Magnetics is garbage. Need proof (Thanks to Alkohol): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/262544 If you really want to do the PS2 backup thing right, pick up some Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim's. I only burn to TYG02, the 8x Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's. So far I've never had a lag, skip, freeze, or boot failure since I switched to Taiyo Yuden's. With results like that, why would I use anything else? Ive been using FujiFilm and Memorex, but i dont believe it is the disks, because some burns work just fine. I usually try to rebuild my games instead of making a straight iso burn. I rebuilt games just fine with isobuster, except my two new espn games. Instead of having about 6 files right away, it puts them all in a data file. Is anybody else having these problems with the espn games.
That's how cheap media works. It doesn't fail with every game, it just will fail with some. You can't say it's not the media until you try some decent media. CMC Mag media is garbage. What's the media ID on those Fuji's? To check the Media ID, insert your disc, open DVD Decrypter, and check it what says under media ID or Manufacturer ID. Compare it to what you see here: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
Ok, thanks man, my fujifilm ones said they were ritek, and that they were 85-90% success rates. I just wish somebody was having these same problems with the espn games and could help me.
Ritek should be okay. Try rebuilding the game. I don't know how many people play the ESPN games over EA sports games. Probably not too many. 10. Q. What does rebuilding an iso mean? A. It means that some games 4.36-4.38GB's may need rebuilt to work with Swap Magic. This isn't true for ALL games over 4.38GB's and differs on a game to game basis. There is no need to rebuild games if you have a modchip. Another purpose of rebuilding is to make games run smoother. Usually the size of the game after rebuilding is smaller, but not always. If you're a Swap Magic user, make sure to look out for dummy files when rebuilding. 11. Q. How Do I rebuild games? A. With Nero and Isobuster (works as long as no single file is over 2 GB's): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/197949 With CD/DVDGen: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/210515 With Expert (Gnie's new rebuilding tool): Gnie's PS2 Auto Rebuilder Tool Download (Thanks to 3DLuis): http://www.alucard.cc/ps2/ExPERT_v1.03.rar Instructions to Gnie's Tool ExPERT: From Anthony 05: Download it and then follow these instrcutions and it will work. 1. select Shrinker_ps2_psp_CdDvd5_iso.epi on the plugins list. 2. Select the iso. 3. Click extract LBA 4. Click extract file 5. Click rebuild file 6. Click rebuild lba. Make sure you do it in that order. This worked for me when every other way failed. It is very easy to do so even the noobies should be able to do it. Keep in mind im backing up the PAL version, but if your having trouble backing up with NTSC then i dont see a problem trying. Good luck.
What's Up!? I'm having trouble burning College Hoops 2K6 for the PS2. I have a PS2 Version 4/5 and use a flip-top along with SwapMagic DVD Version 2. The program I use to burn is DVD Decrypter using Maxell DVD+R at max speed (2.4x on HP Burner). This process has worked on all my games, even those made from the same company as College Hoops 2K6 (like NBA 2K6). The one thing I noticed was that College Hoops 2K6 is a large file compared to the rest of the sports games. It says it's 4.16GB when I place the cursor over it (4,350,000KB listed under file name and 4,450,000KB on DVD Decrypter). Is this too big of a file and why are those KB numbers so weird lol? Which value is important? Some suggested that I rebuilt the file. I've done it before and noticed a drastic decrease in size, but when I did it to College Hoops 2K6 the .iso file when down like .02GB. Hardly a difference and doesn't it seem puzzling? Could dummy files be present? I really don't know why this game is givin me so much trouble. The weird thing is I got it to run once, but then it never even loaded again. It just kept on makin that weird disk noise. Very frustrating and I've been searchin, but have found no solutions so far. Please go to http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/26/275350 for more info. Ever heard of SwapMagicFix.com? Could it be applicable in this case? Think about all this if you can. Sorry to bother you. Thanks!
I'll have nothing to do with that thread anymore, much like Alkohol. However I'll answer you here. It could well be a media issue. Unless those Maxell DVD+R's are High Grade (says it on label) and Made in Japan they could be anywhere from average to garbage Media. What's the Media ID on those Maxell's? 91. Q. What is the Media ID of a DVD and how can I find it? A.The Media ID of a DVD is the true measure of it's quality. It contains prerecorded info about the disc's manufacturer. The quality of the disc will vary depending on the media code. The media code isn't visible on the disc or the packaging. To check the media ID, Open DVD Decrypter, insert your disc, and check what it says under Media ID or Manufacturer ID. You can also use a program called DVD Identifier which is very useful. You can find it here: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_identiifer.cfm Compare the Media ID to this link: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm Huge List of Media ID's (Thanks to DogBomb): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/155431
What's Up!? Sorry for the bother. They aren't "High Grade" or "Made in Japan" for all I know, but they are up to 8x. The thing is that they have done the job with all my other games. Another strange thing is that College Hoops 2K6 hardly shrank when I rebuilt it. What coulda caused this? Is there a place where I can go to get cheap, high-quality DVD+R? Could this be a laser issue? Do you suggest I try using ZoneLoaderDVD (game contains a .elf file)? I really just wanna resolve this issue so I don't have to keep naggin people. Thanks!
Nah most likely good media will resolve the issue. Pick up some Taiyo Yuden or Verbatims for best results. 86. Q. Where can I find good deals on legit Taiyo Yuden's and Verbatim's? A. http://www.supermediastore.com Great List of Merchants locally, online, in the U.K., etc: http://www.digitalfaq.com/dvdguides/buyerguides/buymedia.htm 106. Q. Where I can find top notch Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim media locally? A. This is somewhat of a crap shoot. Big manufacturer's like Fuji, Sony, and Maxell have at one point past or present payed Taiyo Yuden to manufacture media for them. The big companies slap their name on the label even though the discs were manufactured in Japan by Taiyo Yuden. These discs will always be made in Japan. Authentic TY media isn't made anywhere else. Even if it says Made in Japan on the label, there is no gauruntee of getting authentic Taiyo Yuden media. You could still end up with Sony or Fuji media codes. Hence why I said this is a crap shoot. Places like Comp USA, Office Depot, Sam's Club, and Staples will carry Made In Japan branded discs. Again there is no way to know for sure from the package whether these are authentic Taiyo Yuden's. If you don't want to risk getting non TY discs, you can find 50 packs of Verbatim in the afore mentioned chain stores. One other alternative is the Made in Japan High Grade Maxell DVD+R's. They will say Made in Japan on the label and "High Grade" as well. These are excellent media. Remember when using DVD+R's, it's best you have a burner that supports booktyping/bitsetting, and a v.4 PS2 or later. Much thanks goes to kivory666 aka "docTY" for this information. He is indeed the Taiyo Yuden master. The best place to get authentic Taiyo Yuden media is from reputable online vendors like http://www.supermediastore.com http://www.rima.com http://www.meritline.com or http://www.newegg.com
