Combine few DVDs to one

Hi,

I have a few DVDs that I would like to combine to one DVD without losing quality (re-encoding etc.). The ideal solution will be to have some kind of a main menu that will have link to the main menu of the original DVD, but I guess it's complicated.

What type of software can help me do that?

Uhh the only way I know of personally is to shrink the files and then create a movie using a program like Roxio or Nero to give each clip a separate menu.

 

Sorry to butt in but I have 12 disks of the 2nd season of Deadwood that I would like to compress down to as few as possible disks and I am looking for suggestions as to how to do this.

Do you want the best quality? Or just as few discs as possible?

 

Would like to maintain as much quality as possible. If I can cut it down to half the number of disks that would be fine

 

Well I've never attempted to squeeze a few dvd's onto one. So for best quality I would go with DVD-Rebuilder. It will take a long time but the quality is unbeatable. Thats all i can do to help i never really tried/needed to squeeze discs together so do not know were to get started with something like that. sorry.

Thanks for the help. I was not sure that I could do it anyway because they were recorded during the airing of the series and each disk contains the episode that was aired Thanks again.

Ok, found a solution:

There is a software called dvd-remake. The standard edition can combine 2 DVDs and the professional ($$) combines up to 4.

 

DONT BUY IT!!! that sounds really gimmicky because you will lose quality if you put 4 onto a disc in comparison to putting 2 onto a disk. use dvd rebuilder as you will get much better results.

 

alright here matey, i hope you havnt splashed out on that software already. I do this when i have a few episodes of whatever on the comp then i just put them on a dvd usign this method:

I usually put 6 x 300mb episodes on one single layer dvd-r

DvdReMake does not touch original video/audio. It just combines disks structure together so that all menus, etc are operational for both disks. To fit it into DVD5(9) one can than use any transcoder (like DVD Shrink) or reencoder (like DVD Rebuilder). Of course it is not needed if miniDVDs are merged.

It was about combining a few FULL dvd's onto 1 disc without losing lots of quality.

 

It would also depend on what you are going to watch them on. If it's a 27" set you could put a lot more episodes on a disc as opposed to a 50" one. The type of movie also matters. Deadwood is mostly talking heads, not a lot of fast action, hence you can get by with more episodes. You might also consider going to Half D1 in an authoring program. This works best with low bitrates to avoid pixilation (although it does soften the picture a bit).
