How do you combine two AVI files into one and then converting it into one whole DVD? I have a movie in two parts (avi files) and I want to make them one whole DVD to watch on a stand-alone DVD player. The only free program I have to convert AVI to DVD is Avi2Dvd. I'm not sure how to do what I need via that program.
Hey there. Easy Video Joiner will join your AVI files. However, it is not necessary to join separate AVI files in order to burn them; DVDShrink, Nero, etc. are able to place multiple files onto one DVD. Sounds like you just need a good conversion program. I'm not familiar with the one you mentioned, but I love WinAVI. Very fast, very easy, and always works for me. Not technically free, but...you are on the internet , after all. I'm sure you'll come up with something.
Sorry my first post was a bit unclear of my intentions. What I want to do is have 2 AVI files converted and burned onto one DVD. Basically, having both AVI files become one DVD format file to watch on a stand-alone DVD player. I am aware that I don't need to join them to burn them, but I need them in DVD format in order for me to watch them on my TV.
Rice923, You need two programs for two things, encoding to DV, encoding to Video and Audio_TS files, then finally an DVD editing program. Programs I use. Episode Pro for encoding,or alternative program. DVD Pro for building, formating and burning DVD, or alternative program. Process Episode Pro import both files into encoding window. Drag and drop encoder settings you wish to apply to both files. Set up your preferences for NTSC, PAL, filters and other things you want to apply to the file for video. Do the same for sound. Don't make the mistake of trying to convert stereo to 5.1 or above, it will sound stuffed. This is an entirely different process and personally not worth the effort. Having run that process - which depending on your settings can take an hour up to 10 or more depending on how many filters you wish to apply. Now import the two MOV files for another encoding. this time run the PAL/NTSC audio and video encoder settings. Make changes as wish, which should not be necessary (having already done so). Encoding should take around 3 hours for both files, sound and video. Make sure all files are neatly in one folder. Makes life easier. Open DVD Pro or other DVD editing, building, formating, blah, blah and blah! Import all for files into program. Drag titled files into timeline, create menus, connections, chapters and all sorts of sweet stuff to your hearts content. Simulate it to see how cool it looks, build and burn using this or other programs. Once you get used to it, the time is worth while because the results are better. You can even improve the quality of some really bad files. Warning don't skip straight from AVI to DVD authoring. Skipping may be quicker but the results are only as good as the input. Crap equals crap, but crap can be improved in clever ways. I'm on a Mac and some of these programs may not be available eg: Toast and possibly DVD Pro, but I am sure there are the like for MacWindows Now you have to AVI's burnt into a fully encoded multi filed (Video_TS and TOC files within) real fully functioning DVD. It works, it rocks. "Patience" is needed and good processing speeds help too. ciao
Anyone of these apps (there are more) will join the AVI's: AviDemux AVI-Mux GUI Virtualdub MP3 Freeze
I got all of it to work on DVDFlick. On another note, does anyone know a program that can edit mkv files? I want to cut off part of an MKV file because it is too long of a video and won;t fit on a DVD disk.
I've tried the DVD Joiner on Vista Ultimate 32bit and it crashes my explorer.exe. I am trying DVD Flick now. To the previous thread about Nero it get kinda of annoying having to click play on the second title.

Not free, but you can merge with ConvertXtoDVD and convert and burn to DVD: http://forums.vso-software.fr/guide-how-to-merge-and-join-video-files-together-t3080.html Afterdawns guide has not been updated in a while and does not cover the merge feature (therefore the external link)
