ok heres the prob i,m working on a compaq presario 7588 series trying to install xp specs p3 550gmhz 256mb ram 32mb vid. 80gb hdd. cdrom, can,t boot from cd, bios won,t show much. boot order is floppy and hdd. it boots directly to hdd & no os. in searching i found a cd prog but no go windows exe file. not usefull. any ideas?
You need to find a bootable floppy with CD-ROM drivers. I usually go to bootdisk.com for mine Boot from floppy. Change to CD-ROM Run setup from CD-ROM Be aware that your system barely meets the minimum requirements for XP. Expect it to run like c**p.
not true heres the min specs from micorsoft. • PC with 300 megahertz or higher processor clock speed recommended; 233 MHz minimum required (single or dual processor system);* Intel Pentium/Celeron family, or AMD K6/Athlon/Duron family, or compatible processor recommended • 128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features) • 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available hard disk space* • Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor • CD-ROM or DVD drive • Keyboard and Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device true the specs are crap, i only need the specs to run 1-2 programs. they have to be in windows envoirment. dvd decriptor & dvd shrink. in server 2k3 or 2000, nt might work.but i,m not sure. money,s tight now & cant get newer pcs w better specs, 1 of my custom newer pcs crapped out on me cpu died i think. it,s not the mombo or psu ram is fine too , shoulda stuck with am2 athalon x4. what i need it for is a multi dvd decripting system. & all i have is theese older systems , plenty of dvdrom drives & a rouiter. likning 8 systems together to a client to decrypt 6000 dvds 2-4 each unit. unless you can think of a cheaper way to do this?
"what i need it for is a multi dvd decripting system." NFW. You caould barely sustain the transfer rate on one drive, let alone more than one. " & all i have is theese older systems , plenty of dvdrom drives & a rouiter. likning 8 systems together to a client to decrypt 6000 dvds 2-4 each unit. unless you can think of a cheaper way to do this?" You are going to be stuck to one at a time. The systems don't even support SATA so your bottleneck is going to be the ATA-33 (ATA-66 if you're lucky IDE interface. If you sold all 8 clunkers for $100.00 USD each (not liklely) you might have enough to build 1 system that could do 4 at a time. Maybe. One of the threads on the subject. (This one is on burning more than decrypting) http://forums.afterdawn.com/t.cfm/f-126/multiple_dvd_burners_recording_at_once-789610/ All I can say beyond that is "try it", but I'm advising you in advance not to be surprised if you can't. IMHO, you have too many I/O bottlenecks (besides the obvious one at the CPU)
can,t boot to cd. i think the bios is out of date , theres no cd support or viewable. a floppy cdrom proggy might work. strange the cd worked before, but the hdd wasn,t detected. it loads direct to hdd or floppy. i,m guessing dos is the best. unless i can get 4 better mombos & cpus that,ll work. but no money, untill next week. i have parts galore there too old i guess. in fact i tested a newer mombo on the case, the power switch is diffrent.
zerox1, why do you need to decrypt 6000 dvd's for? answer :a media center w- all of my dvd movies in iso & mpeg2 or divx.! wouldn,t you wanna have everything on 1 unit? btw the only pc i have to spare was the client pc & the media center pc. right now i have 120 movies on the mediaplayer. for now. max copp is 1tb.
