Can anyone compare the results I will get capturing my Hi8 and VHS videos to my PC with the following products (in order of expense): -ATI Radeon All-in-Wonder 9000 -Inexpensive DV cam with analog->FireWire passthrough -Canopus DV-50 (or other model?) Any other thoughts? Thanks, Ken
If you have an opinion, please let me know how much of a difference in quality there would be- "a little difference", "a big difference", etc.
Hi KenM I own three capture devices 1 - ATI TV Wonder VE Pro 2 - Asus FM TV card 3 - Asus V9520ht Video card Each machine has a 128mb video card and of the lot for capturing TV shows I like the V9520ht the best. For another opinion check http://www.digitalfaq.com/ ( previouly known as lordsmurf.com). this site has lots of information on capturing. I hope this helps
I would recomend something like the Canopus ACEDVio which is a Less expensive and Internal PCI version of the ADVC-100, It uses the same High Quality DV Compressor chip that all of the High end canopus Capture devices have it also has NTSC TV out so you can watch your NTSC Materion of a real TV set while editing so you know how it will look when viewed on a real TV and Not a Progressive Monitor... A DV Cam with Analogue Passthrough can produce good results but it does not have the features that something like the Canopus ACEDVio has Like Audio Lock which eliminates the chances of Sync problems, It has features Like you can adjust the Saturation and Contrast and Color Balance ECT before you capture so you don"t have to do it after, it also has Digital Inputs for a DV Camcorder and it can also output to a camcorder or VCR ECT....I have seen them on E-Bay for as Low as $169 US from reputible sellers.... I used to own a ATI ALL In Wonder 8500DV and for an all arround card it was great and the Capture Quality was quite good But nothing like I have seen with these Canopus Analogue Digital converters....the Canopus device is actually the cheapest solution you have listed if you get it off e-bay because at the canopus site they sell the card for $350 and you can get it for half the Price on E-bay.... Check out the Specs here: http://www.canopus.com/US/products/ACEDVio/pt_ACEDVio.asp#keybenefits
