I am planning on building a new PC as people say you can save quite a bit of money, also have i added something that i don't need like those SATA cables? will all the cables come with the things i am planning on buying? Case: 7/10 - not the best designed, and very common, but quite powerful. PSU: 0/10 - Positively dangerous. Buy a Corsair VX 550W instead. DVD/RW: 5/10 - You can get a 22x drive for much less than that elsewhere. RAM: 9/10 Motherboard: N/A. AMD boards are not compatible with Intel processors. Buy an EP43-UD3L instead. CPU: 6/10 - outdated and overpriced. cooler: 7/10 - Freezer 7 Pro is a much better choice for that price Extra cables aren't necessary Graphics: 4/10 - Again, outdated and very overpriced. You can buy an HD4870 for that money. Use Scan.co.uk or ebuyer.com for PC parts, not Amazon.
I agree 100% with Sam. I don't know much about the RAM / PSU / Casing stuff, but generally take the brand name over generic. Remember the definition of watt; it utilizes the amount of heat produced as the measurement; no conductors are perfect. Therefore generic brands with high wattage count may (usually) suck more than a better brand PSU, lower wattage count. You don't want to bring a $800 machine down with a stupid $14 PSU, right? The PSU is, in fact, fuel of the car. Remember, "I smell regular, she needs Premium" - The Simpsons. I guess the same applies for your PC. Good PSU, and you will not be screwd. Adequate cooling will be good to have also. Have plenty of them; at least one exhaust (case!) Hmmm, besides that; the motherboard. It is always good to have a good motherboard to backup the system. It is the heart of the system, the thing that houses all the components. Even if the components are good, if the thing that houses it sucks, the PC will suck, or will suffer performance losses. --> I bought a P5K - SE, which I save $10 on. If I paid that $10, I would've got a full P5K. Do not cheapen out on the motherboard. CPU: Great choice. You may cheapen out on this if you are on a budget. If you are lucky, you can get a good stepping/rev., and overclock the shit outta the baby. EDIT: Q8200 on 45nm. I think it may be cheaper, and of smaller process field, it will run cooler and clock probably higher. Graphics: Sure, the 9800GTX is good, but not for the money. Newegg is your friend my friend! Get the 4870. =DDDDD. Last note: HAVE FUN! And don't forget; do all the possible research before buying, or you will regret it. I did 2x. I bought 2 computers in 2 years. Both had sucky motherboards. The first one didn't even overclock. Because of this, I will only buy a NEW computer once i graduate from high school =/... If something is not in stock, and something tells you that you need to buy an alternative, avoid the urge to buy the alternative. Almost all the P5Ks were naff anyway Genesis, doesn't really matter which one you bought, but agreed, the cheaper you go (with Asus anyway, not so much with other brands) the worse it gets, reliability included. Terribly sorry, I misinterpreted the board you had as the AMD chipset. Now I realise it's nvidia, it's awful. Get rid of it. For that sort of money get a GA-EP43-UD3L instead, far better, and take heed of what I said about not using Amazon, you're paying a lot more than you should be for that lot.
