Dear all, i am using a pretty old IOMEGA Super DVD internal dvd writer. I recently bought an imation 16X DVD+R and the max speed detected by my computer was 2.4X. I thought there was a problem with the discs and I exchanged it for SONY 16X DVD+R. Same problem. Using Nero Infotool, supported speed is only 2.5X. When I tried using other older DVD media, such as Daewoo and A1 pro 8X DVD+R, the supported speeds in Infotool do show 8X.

My DVD-Writer's max write speed for DVD+R is 12X. The model number on the drive itself is SOHW-1213S. I understand that is LITEON's model number? Iomega using LITEON OEM? The serial number is L1AE270154. Using Nero Infotool, the model shown is IOMEGA DVDRW12448IND-B. Firmware version is TOSB.

I thought upgrading the firmware might solve the problem. I downloaded the only firmware available from Iomega's website for internal DVD burners, but the program didnt detect any DVD drive. I tried using LITEON's firmware for SOHW-1213S, but when I run the programme, it says no LITEON Dvd drive match and doesnt run.

What do I do? really need help.

    Thanks in advance..

Oh ya, I tried on my dad's laptop which is quite new, Nero Infotool shows supported speeds up to 8X. Iomega charges US$25 for phone support, which is ridiculous. I'd rather get a new one for $5 more. I'm in Singapore btw. Also, i just burnt the discs at 2.4X, but they cant be read in my xbox media center. It works fine in both my pc and dad's laptop. Any suggestions?

Spend the $25 and get a new drive. You won't be sorry.

Check that DMA is turned on for the controller - and even if it is, 'uninstall' the controller, reboot and let the system reinstall it.

    Defragment the hard drive
