Are there any dvd ripping programs compatible with an apple g4 computer, or does it not matter?

oh, dear. Your even more a newbie than I (lol). I've got a G5 but G3 on, MacThe Ripper is the best (only for the Mac). Go to www.ripdifferent.com and download - it's free. Super piece of software.

Even with the new Intel Macs, you would have to be running in the Windows environment to run Windows software, which most of the rippers and compressors are.
For the complete package, you need MacTheRipper (free), DVD2oneX (latest version is 2.0.5) (not free), then burn with TOAST or your favourite.
If your just starting to rip, I would guess you're going to have quite a few more questions. Download one of the AfterDawn guides on the subject, and read the short manuals for MTR and DVD2OneX available free with the software, or available to download for free separately.

Thank you for your help!! I have not had a chance to try anything yet, but hopefully I can get it to work.
