    Hi,
I have just brought a DVD player that plays Mpeg-4 and I have an xvid file that works, I have tried to convert other files to xvid but they wont play, How do I find out what the settings are on the working xvid and duplicate them for my other files (they are a mixture of avi, divx and mpeg files)

Compatibility depends mostly on what chipset the player uses. If you encode using the Home Theatre profiles though (preferably with my build) then it should playback on all players. Easier still use AutoGK with ESS compatibility enabled.

MPEG4Modifier will provide most info on a file such as:
    whether qpel was used.
gmc including number of warp points (Xvid always uses 2 or 3)
    number of consecutive bframes
    bitstream version
    quant matrix
whether n-vops are present (real ones screw up ESS based players (reason for recommending my build, since it forces no n-vops for HT encodes))

You should also look at the resolution and bitrate. HT goes upto 720x576, anything higher and it won't play. Bitrate spikes can cause playback issues, but the file will still play.
