Up until about a week or so ago, my machine was running perfectly. Then it all went to pot... I cannot play [bold]any[/bold] video file on my computer without the whole machine locking up and needing to be rebooted. At first I thought it was just Media Player playing siller beggars with my Divx files, but it also locked on WMV files and regular un-encoded AVI files. I have even tried opening the files in other players, like Divx player that comes with the codec download and the Nero Showtime player, but with the same results!!! I have uninstalled the codecs I have on my system (and used the guide from here to get rid of all the fiddly ones too) - that made no difference! I have uninstalled and deleted Media Player and resinstalled it - that made no difference! I am at my wits end now. The only thing I can think of doing to fix this is a system rebuild (which is a bit drastic, but possibly necessary). If anyone can come up with any other ideas/things for me to try I would be very grateful. Ta muchly in advance.
