So I really dont wanna play the new Zelda until i get 480p running on my gamecube. The problem is that the only "true" component cables are, as you may know, rare. My question is, should i fork out the bones for the rare component cables that use the dv out slot, or should i get the 3rd party "universal" component cables that use the regular av slot of the gamecube. And if i get the 3rd party cables will it still display in HD 480p even tho its not going out from the dv slot. Heres a link for the whole dv vs av slot and why the cables are rare: http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/nintendogamecube/component_faq.jsp and heres a link for the universal cables that use the regular av cables. http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product_Id=4025951&JRSource=googlebase.datafeed.PEL+U-PL970 thanks for any help, i hope this post wasnt too confusing
There are no component cables for the Gamecube that connect through the AV slot on the back of the console. The component cable for Gamecube has to plug into the digital A/V output. I also don't know of any 3rd party component cables for the Cube. The ones I have bought in the past have been the Japanese ones through LikSang. Unfortunately, they are no longer in business, but try an importer (local or online). As rare as they are to acquire, it's not impossible. The clarity and color you get from using these cables whether or not you're viewing your games in 480i or 480p is immediately apparent. I say, spend the $50 or so to get these cables, or sell your cube, games and accessories and put the money towards the wii. Good luck.
Well you cant because the normal A/V is Analouge whi;le progressive is Digital whihc means only via the Digital Av I think the cables are discountinued for a while now i got mine in July 2002
thanks for the replys, i went ahead and got the cables off of ebay, and man it really does make a difference playing Zelda in 480p vs 480i. and wow what a great game too! im 15 hours in now and im hoping that theres at least another 15 left.
I've came across an article on how to make a HD cable for your gamecube, I think. It could of been for the ps2, not sure now. Oh, wait, it was about using it to connect to a vga type monitor that supports sync on green, instead of using a HD tv. I use to have a vga pass thru thingy for the dreamcast. Not like the vga box i have now for my ps2 & gamecube, it actually plays the games that support it in vga mode, while my vga box just doubles the frequency so the monitor can handle it. But that link to the pelican HD thingy seems nice. I stupidly got a Gamestop labeled AV switch (gamestop labled stuff is usually pelican or Mad Catz products, fyi), thinking that it would let me plug something into the s-video and still let it play thru the composite port. nope, they are all seperate. Component only connects to componet, svid only svid, composite only composite. While I understand why they did it, it sucks that they couldn't print it on the package. The problem is, I don't have an HD capable tv. Now, I have a monitor that can hit all the HD res, except the 1080p (pretty sure it's interlacing when it gets to 1920x1080). It's a BNC connecter Monitor, A sony Multican 17se. The BNC means it has 5 seperate connectors, Red, Green, Blue, Horizontal Sync, Vertical Sync. It's currently the monitor I use with the vga box. I'd love to figure out how to connect it up so I could use it for componet connections. Problem is, I don't think it goes down to the 15khz range, so it would only be good with higher res stuff. Don't know why I am saying all this. Guess maybe because i'm hoping someone will know what I can do, and since you've figured out what you are doing, I guess I'm not stealing this thread.
