Hi, I backed up my Chitty Chitty Bang Bang movie and played it on my PC and it worked fine, but when I put it into my stand alone player the movie jumps and starts 17 minutes into the film? Can someone explain to me why/how this happens and how to avoid this hapenning in the future? The programs I used for this are DVD Decrypter and Intervideo DVD Copy! I have got DVD Fab Express and DVD Shrink on my PC, so if I had used them would I still have this problem? Thanks in advance

Hi struggler! My 1st guess would be the media/burn speed you used or a dirty lens in the player since the backup plays in your pc and I don't think there's anything special on Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. What's the media and burn speed?
I am using Maxell 1 to 8X speed discs. My burning software was set up to burn at the max recogniseable but I have now changed this to 4X! After reading some of the earlier threads.
Most here recommend that you burn at 1/2 the rated media speed for optimum results. I am having excellent results burning at 6x on TY 8x rated media. Remember to set your target size so that you do not burn too close to the edge of the media as well. 4300 to 4350 would be about right. I set mine to 4300mb. Cheers.
@struggler Keep your drives firmware up to date also. This helps your drive with the read/write strategies of media. Let's us know how the one bruned at 4x turns out!
I have backed up 2 discs using 4X write rate and they are fine I think the problem I had was just a one off! The main reason I was asking the question was because I was thinking that there may be some sort of physical protection on the original disc that would make any back up play differently? I think I have misunderstood the term physical protection on a DVD? Well thanks for all your help, I am geting better with every error/problem that I encounter with your help. @struggler Depending on the movie and the copy protection it has - if not ripped/encoded right you might have some playbacks issues. Missing files - skipping ahead - blank parts. So if you have play back issues or ripping issue in the future best to post all the info - method used, media etc. AnyDVD w/ CloneDVD handles anything out there. Then you have the dvdfab decrypter, vobblanker, shrink w/ decrypter or nero to burn method - also handles anything.
I had the same problem this week when i backed up my copy of Madagascar. I was still using the trial version of Fab Express. The movie starts 10 min into (and skips blocks of times) when played on any one of the 4 dvd players in my home, but plays fine on the PC. I later backed up another movie using DVD X Copy (it would fail on the Madagascar about 1/2 thru), and it worked great. I think the problem is DVD Fab. This is the response I got from DVD Idle:I suggest you try using a variety of different brands/speeds media. Check your writer manufacturer's site and the computer manufactures site for a list of recommended media to use with your writer and any firmware updates. Also lowering the writing speed may bring better results. I really dont think its the media or the speed, I think its Fab or some kind of protection.
It is obviously the media, speed or combination of both. It is not a "new" protection nor do I beleive it is the "fault" of the programs used....
Bilbo65 That might make sense if I haven't backed up other movies with this same media, using DVD X Copy. Which play without error in any of my DVD players.
Good luck in your future copy endeavors. I appoligize for questioning something that is so cut and dried and carved in stone.....
